It's -15 degrees right now, just like the last 3 days. Too cold to venture very far. Put on a 100 miles and that was enough. My sled doesn't have a windshield though.

my guess is cold and not much snow except for the usual western UP lake effect snow belt areas. Those of us who track conditions know there's snow there. Trails will be beat up with lot's of traffic since it's all confined to the usual places. I guess not much to report. I wanted to come up next weekend but doesn't look like it will be worth the trip up for where I want to ride.

Do you have anything to report?

Xmas and NYs big holiday riding time and no condition reports? Why is that?

My guess is not much change to report. N Wi trails are fair and in need of more snow. W UP keeps.snowing and rough by end of today. Also with almost every club having a Facebook page and taking pics and posting daily I get most of my reports on there. Maybe others due to. Not sure

Been in Sayner Saint Germain for a week and its been 15 to 20 below every morning. Tons of traffic so by late afternoon trails are beat. Trails are very rideable with the thin base and best in the morning as usuall. Boboen and Barnstormers out grooming every night doing the best they can and it really helps as some clubs are not grooming and their trails are bad.

There just isn't much to report...the cold weather has froze up most of the wet spots, and clubs have been able to mark lakes...but it's thin in spots (especially south)...we have received a dusting of snow at best...trail bases average 3 inches (more to the north, less to the south)...the club's are doing an amazing job with what's out there...but we definately need a good 3-6 inches to really make it nice...trails are in fair early season condition, with some areas better than others (I found some wooded trails away from heavy traffic areas, that were very good..dont ask..not telling...lol)...lots of sleds, in and around, minocqua, lake tom and St germain...as expected. Conditions have not changed much in two weeks, except, the ice is better, and wet areas are freezing up better than I have seen in years

Trails are thin and toasted until we get more snow. Only so much a groomer can do with this amount of snow and all that traffic.
Glad amateur week is over. I'll be back soon.

Amateur week? Compared to professional snowmobile trail rider week?

The last 2 posts are right on, it was holiday a week, lots of people due to everyone is off of work & its the only extended trip other than a few weekends most of these people can go. They do not post, they go to ride & bitch about the conditions, not understanding that the groomers can only do so much with the snow amount we have with this amount of traffic. Don't worry it will get better soon

Trails around Laona were as good as could be expected for the 10" of fluff we have on the ground. We were surprised by how the woods trails were somewhat filled in.
Grade wasn't bad either with way less gravel mixed in than expected. The NST from Whitetail (Tipler) to Laona is "rideable" but leave your old bides on ....they will be toast.
.

2 days of late starts after having to "heat gun" the under hood temps to get the sleds rolling at -15 totaled around 100 miles with many pitstops. 4 day weekend plans culled to 3 but better than nothing.

Overall, the packed base gives me hope for an extended year when the snow finally arrives.

I bet these conditions sound familiar to Phelps, eh?

Phelps was pretty bad lots of logging on 17 so I'll find a way around that mess but need lube snow to do so. I just use 17 and 6 in Phelps to escape to UP on unplowed FRs. The Twins are marked with barrels now so that is a good thing and can skip the bipass trail. I'm hoping to ride Wednesday if we get a couple of inches tonight and work it north. The cold not a big deal to me just need to dress for it but warmer stuff coming which is a good thing.

Hey snobuilder, your assessment of base for the future conditions sounds good!!! Please no Jan/Feb thaws this year!!! Heat gun??? Oh no!!! At least you can't shoot the Poo, or Yami with that!!! Just bring to life!!! Been there, done that before. West Yellowstone one morning @ -42. It's been colder down here the past 2 mornings than the landlord has had up in Conover Wi. Not very often that happens. Minus 18/20 here again this AM. Oh, did the Jameson freeze, or get slushy??? Ha Ha. Be safe!!!!!!!!!!

Rode in the Kee and St. Germain last week. Kee has a TON of snow, and the trails are all good...but many (like 137 and 13 into/out of Ontonagon) had not been groomed at all. I'm sure that will rectify in the next couple days...groomers were probably spending all their time trying to take the bumps out of the Bill Nichols.

St. Germain was pretty bad. Don't even think about riding there if you like your carbides...they'll be toast. Nothing but smacking rocks the entire ride over to Conover, then Star Lake and back down through Sayner. That said...the ground and lakes are good and frozen, and a couple inches of snow and things will be perfect.

Drove highway 141 back to the Keweenaw this afternoon. All trail crossings that appeared open from Pound/Coleman WI to Baraga MI were extremely thin - snirt showing on just about every one of them.
