Notching a track

I found out today that the lugs rub on the heat exchangers on my sled. Its a 99 xc 700. I read that any gen II without a notched track that's a 1.25" lug will rub. I read that tracksusa says to just run it and let it wear down itself because it bearly touches right now. But i think that would overheat the heat exchangers wouldn't it? How should i go about notching the track? i only need like 1/4" notched out. 2/3 of the clips need to be notched, right before every track clip (my track is clipped every third) it's got no lug there. Wow i feel like i explained this bad, i'm sure frnash will say something about my grammar. Anyways, how should i notch it?

notching made easy

this only has to be as hard as you want to make it .a fresh blade in a sheet rock knife is all it takes, like cutting warm butter just don't over cut the corners . mt the track in the sled wind it up on the stand use the rub marks as a guide line, cut a little at a time post a pic of the track it may not need as much as you think

We use an electric heated tire regrooving tool around here. kinda like a soldering gun with a hoop on the end. melts like butter.
