Off Trail in Northern Michigan

So I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to find a nice off trail place to ride in mainland Michigan. I ride Twin Lakes for the most part but was wondering if anyone has any better places. I am looking to go this weekend. Any input is appreciated.

this is like asking someone what the ingredients are for secret sauce.

people usually dont tell you good spots as they want them to be kept secret. Tell everyone they get tracked up and then they suck.

follow some tracks see where they lead is your best bet.

see SUCKER CREEK and the road says UNKNOWN...try that one...also try 5230 and all those dashed roads from SLEEPY HOLLOW down to MATTESON and in all those ponds is some sweet stuff....its all over the place....I hope you was kidding right?

Yup - your not going to get much out of people on this. I look at it like a fishing spot. Only my best, and very trusted friends will know about them.

We have had a place to ourselves for 5+ years. Almost never another track. While riding this past Sunday a group of about 8 sleds met us. My heart sank, because I know our secret spot is not longer secret. Not saying they don't deserve to be there just like us, but our once great place will no longer be the same. Time to look again, which was the 1st thing I started to do once I got back.

When we met, we were going north, and they were going south. It was so tracked up with their group, it did not pay to hit it anymore. These guys that run powder near houghton and other populated areas, I don't know how you do it. Everytime I look at those areas, there isn't any fluff left at all.

That's why I was asking for mainland Michigan not the UP. I wasn't asking for specific GPS coordinates I was asking for an area with challenging terrain.

ah see. didn't catch that mainland thing the first time. over on that side theres off trail very similar to twin lakes. at BOYNE theres a trail that goes behind the ski resort and in the front is a powerline run that heads southwest I believe. that's a blast in there and then you can connect with other lines. ALLEGAN is another place. the Allegan forest. but traverse city hates sledders just keep that in mind

the stars...see how Charlevoix and antrim have nothing in that area. that's cause the people don't want any ATV or sled or ORV in their area...see how between Marquette and alger theres nothing also. that's because chocolay township hates sledders also and with a passion I might add. you really gotta research who likes and dislikes sleds when thinking of going off trail in those areas. traverse for instance has towed my conversion van and 4 place trailer once. and I was at an event at the snowmobile club house and parked on road outside club. they towed em all. maybe 25 vehicles and rigs. didn't even go in club and make announcement or anything. good luck and have fun. off trail is always THE BEST

example....heres the ALGERS PLAINS and we all know what that means....off trail MECCA....so is SANDTOWN TRAILS to the west....heres an example....just do the same in other areas...hope that helps and you hear sweet song birdies instead of crickets....LOL

Try the Chandler Hills area which is between Vanderbilt and Wolverine on the West side of I-75.
There are lots of hills and powerlines/gaslines.

You do know that unless it is a designated snowmobile trail power lines are illegal to ride.
