oil light on

Hey guys my buddy has a 98 v max 500 and he said the oil light has come on but the oil is full. He said the coolant looks a little low and is wondering is that is why the light came on. Also he wants to know what kind of coolant he can run in it. Thanks.

I'll chime in since nobody else has. I have no idea how Yamaha does it but is there some sort of float mechanism in the oil tank that isn't floating anymore? Look for where the sending unit is attached to the tank and can it be removed? Again....just guessing based on past experiences with other brands of 2S'.

As to coolant, a premix of 50-50 should do. You can buy gallon jugs of 50-50 premix at most auto and home stores.

If it is indeed an oil light most likely the sending unit in the tank is junk. I prefer to buy the gallon jug of straight antifreeze and mix it at home, it is approximately 3x cheaper this way.
