I've been a moderator on this board for several years. Over time, we get a nice turnover of members, thus giving us fresh insights and discussions.

But sometimes people forget that this is a private board and users are subject to the rules as set forth by the owner of the board. This is a friendly place, free from swearing and political comments.

Unfortunately, several of you need to be reminded of this. DO NOT SWEAR ON THIS BOARD! Using asterisks, eliminating vowels, and other cute word tricks does not make it all right, and those comments will be deleted.

DO NOT DISCUSS POLITICS on this board! A simple post about DNR enforcement in Illinois will not become a complaint forum about any political party or figure.

And before you jump on your soapboxes and scream about Moscow, Gestapo, and all other nefarious organizations let me again remind you that this is a private site. Your participation in this is a PRIVILEGE granted by the owner, it is not a "right".

Let's go sledding!

I have seen more political posts lately thats probably more offensive than swearing. Now a days considering how divided we have become, what ever u say u are probably offending 50% of the readers.Really doesn't belong on here.

It's hard to discuss much of anything snowmobile related without at least 2 opposing POV.

I have a real strong feeling that if all the responses were in favor these kids being detained for nearly and hour by the DNR/LEO, the thread "Illannoy DNR" wouldn't be seen as an out of line "political" discussion.

And acting tough and immature behind a key board. As the OP stated, this is a private, friendly site for all ages. You know the rules.

Yes it's a snowmobile/weather discussion board, but even the weather and snowmobiling involves "politics" to some extent (trail pass costs, government relations regarding trails, global warming, etc). I get staying away from "politics" when it has nothing to do with snowmobiling and weather but I do believe it's fair to comment on politics when it's related to our interests in snowmobiling and weather related topics.

BUT, It's John's place to make the rules so...we live by the guidelines he set's out.

I do hope the insane political correctness that has become "normal" in our society doesn't infiltrate this board.

Don't worry. I will never force political correctness on anyone. My point is to avoid the insane banter that goes on when politics get involved. Anyone want to mindlessly go on and on trying to prove their political viewpoint is the best is free to do so. Just do not clutter up this discussion board with the crap. Plenty of other places to do that.

I was at one of our volunteer fireman meetings and I got arguing with a guy about politics. I was a younger yet informed version of myself. As things got escaleted an elder jumped in and started telling a story. We all got quiet and listened to him as he was much older and we respected him. The story seemed to be going nowhere when he said "and then his neighbor brought him over a box of dog ****". Everybody sat back as was like what?? He then said "the moral of the story is most people would rather hear a story about a box of dog **** than to talk about politics.". I miss that guy!!

This will all get sorted out when one of you so called educated moderated and in control can explain the line between a discussion and a political discussion.

Says a lot when you decide to insult us.

The difference is quite simple. When people have a discussion they present different points of view in a rational manner and sometimes (gasp!) supported by facts. That can continue.

As soon as someone goes off the rails ("It's the Democrat leftist commie pig MAGA hat wearing right wing minority gay and lesbian communist pinko gun toting immigrants fault) it is no longer a rational discussion, it has descended into schoolyard name calling and it goes bye-bye.

The other answer is a lot simpler...we decide. If John doesn't like it I hear from him. So I would suggest that instead of insulting the mods you behave like a human being that is part of a community that operates according to a set of rules. If your post gets deleted you should not worry about my behavior as I am generally considered to be a rational and tolerant person, rather you should examine your own behavior.

Another good clue is not to insult us, makes that delete button get bigger.
