Asking a Chicagoan who has the best pizza or beef sandwiches is like asking a snowmobiler who makes the best snowmobile. Everyone has their opinion and at the end of the day- it's personal preference. I suggest you eat as much pizza (thin crust squares) and beef as possible. That's one thing a lot of displaced Chicago folks miss when they move away- the corner beef joints. Everything is good. Most make pizza as well. Hot dogs (no ketchup) w/ steamed buns, italian beef & sausages, burgers, gyros, etc. Now I'm hungry. This salad I'm eating is not going to cut it today :)

Wonder if anyone remembers Alvera's in Chicago Heights IL. Take a date there after a movie and get two shakes and two beef samdwiches for less than a buck. Quit4e a few years ago.

The Gilmer Shell gas station on Gilmer & Midlothain in Mundelein use to have a pretty tasty beef. Wonder if they still make them?

Nic you just had to say it didn't you, gyros, well Central Gyros just south of Belmont on Central is King in my book. As a matter of fact they supply just about everyone else in the Chicagoland market with their meat.

Why not have the best of both worlds? One of my favorite pizzas in the world to get is italian beef and hot giardiniera....so tasty.

I like all the beef places mentioned.

FYI...Carm's (in Hillside) is no longer in business. That location is vacant.

If you want some entertainment when your eating some Chicago style food. Stop by The Wiener Circle on Clark st. in Chicago. Make sure to go there when the local bars are about to close. Youtube wiener circle "cheeseburger" or "chocolate shake"

Another suggestion is not realy but kinda Chicago food, if you like real mexican tacos plenty of taco joint all over the city.

Chicago Pizza, from someone who grew up on the streets of Chicago I can tell you that the deep dish and stuffed pizza are not Chicago style pizza, a good thin crust cut in squares is a true Chicago Pizza from the little street corner neiborhood pizza place.

You couldn't be more right. That other stuff is for tourists

I can't believe you said that. I built most of the homes in Countryside Lakes just North of there. The owners son (Laith) was there Every morning and made my beef sandwich every day! They had the best beef ever.......And it was a GAS STATION!

BTW...Laith was an original member of the group "Shadows of Night".....Remember them?......G-L-O-R-I-A....Glorrrrriiiaa! :)
