The purple sled is a 1967 long track, it is the first purple Viking made. My dad was president of Viking back then so we ran lots of prototype sleds View attachment 30268 . Here is a picture at Old Faithful in 1970. We left West Yellowstone in the morning and got back after dark. It seemed like the trail had 3 foot moguls. Check out the patches on the suits.

I don't know if they still have it, but Bill & Diane Miller (They host the A-1 Vintage Show in Michigan) had a Viking sled still in the crate.

I cannot imagine riding some of these old machines from town to town back in the day. It definitely took some courage to go from gas station to gas station on some of the longer pulls. Dang!!!

Gary, watch out for this heckler fellow. He's one of those, those- I have a hard time saying it. One of those BEARS fans in Wisconsin. Just kidding.

Toolmaker, how you doing? How is the family? Season cut short :)

The sled really is a barn (shed) find.

I saw one at Hayday's in the late 90's and talked to them some. It is probably the same sled, there can't be to many left in crates. There must be more pictures that can be put up, even ones from the 80's or 90's. Here is one of my mom getting ready to race at the West Yellowstone Roundup in March of 1967. She finished third in the race. West Yellowstone 1967.jpg

Old Viking

A few pics of when we pulled it out of the barn. No pics yet of the finished project. It's not a show room restore but a ridable one.

Here's a question

I noticed looking at these pictures that all the older sleds had the chaincase on the clutch side of the engine just adjacent to the secondary. When did they start adding the longer shaft and move the chaincase to the right side? Any history there, who was the first and why?
