Older Polaris questions

I have the opportunity to purchase 2 sleds, a 1994 Polaris Indy 500 efi sks and a 97 Indy 700 RMK. I ride a 2000 Yamaha srx 700 and am not familiar with these older polaris sleds. The asking price is $500 for both, however, they are located in Las Vegas and I need to transport them back. They haven't been started in several years but neither has over 1500 miles. They were stored in a garage and although dirty, the pics show that they appear in decent shape. What can you tell me about these sleds...issues, suggestions....are they worth the asking price and my cost to transport. The RMK has a cracked hood...how is parts availability. Thanks in advance.

late 80s and early 90s polaris EFI's weren't very good, lots of problems but the 97 RMK 700 is a STEAL and will rip your arms off.

I had that exact EFI. Started on second pull everytime but it needs a fully charged battery for the fuel pump to kick on. Are they worth 500 bucks sure. I buy and sell junk like that all the time. A running sled is always worth 500 bucks. The time to pick them up? F no.

Let them go and find another sled. By the time you have them sitting in your yard ready to ride you could've bought a decent used sled closer to you. I have done this before. So I know exactly what you can be spending at the end of the day. If you can't pick them up your self you will have to hire someone and goodluck finding someone who will do that job under $1200.00. Your best bet would be USHIP. Post an add and hopefully someone within the "NEXT MONTH" would be willing to pick them up on their way through heading your direction. (One way will cost you around $1200.00, I've this done before. Right around $950.00 from Wyoming to WI). Those sleds you mention are mountain sleds. SKS stands for Snow King Special and the RMK Rocky Mountain King. Those sleds are probably jetted for a certain elevation, clutching, jets and gears etc..... So you would have to add in the costs of maintance to get them running again and also the proper parts so they can run at sea level elevation. If you have a shop do the work, look at spending around $500.00 per sled. By the time this is all said and done you will probably have paid way too much. Sounds like a good deal now, but trust me it's not worth it. Unless you really like these certain model snowmobiles and you have the extra cash to spend with out even looking at the sleds... It's your choice. Hope this helps.

X2 500EFI will be problems & replacement parts if available are expensive. RMK good sled but I would be worried about desert drying out the engine seals then shipping costs on top of that ......walk away. Lots of good running early Indy 500s non EFI & RMKS in your area you just need to find them. Vintage Polaris of that era are legacy products & were very popular & many still running very well today.
