One of Ford Motor Company's South American Plants

One of Ford Motor Company's South American Plants is touted to be the most advanced in the world! Kind of like the making of the Model T video! This is a short video of a new Ford plant in Brazil . One look at this and you will be able to understand why there will probably never be another assembly plant built in the USA.
It will also point out why more assembly plants will go offshore. http://apps.detnews.com/apps/multimedia/player/index.php?id=1189

ubee, you missed the last 15 seconds. Ford would like to build a plant like that in the States except that the UAW is against it.

What this film clip does NOT say is that the pay rate there is 1/3 of what it is in the USA, there is NO pension plans, and....health costs since the state pays that. We could go on about taxes, and a whole bunch of other things, but this isn't just about the UAW...it is about how much cheaper things can be made there and then shipped here to the USA, where profits are far greater.

So even if the UAW said go ahead, FORD would not build this plant here.

Sorry but that link makes me sick, this thread highlights the biggest problem we face in America today.

I'm absolutely not going to bash unions as they initially represented fair and living wages for our labor force, many people spout that unions have been the problem; while they may share some of the blame for failing to give concessions when corporations were no longer profitable, the fact is politicians approving NAFTA was the genesis of American corporations fleeing our over taxed, and over regulated country. This combined with robotic technology has devastated our manufacturing sector and has forced millions of families to lower their standard of living, e.g. Detroit MI.

Our kids today are required to spend $100,000.00 on a four year degree only to be supplanted by someone from India because the employer has elected to outsource the position to cheaper labor, pure insanity.

I don't want to turn this into a political rant so all I'll say is elections matter and that America better wake up and start taking care of its own.

yamalaris....you said it!! i agree...but i think it's too late...
i live in the detroit suburbs, you would not believe what's happened to this area, all the empty shops, stores, houses sitting empty/for sale. the people the worked in the auto industry and the effect they had on all the local bussiness, where they shopped, where they went out to eat, the bars and entertainment joints,all the way down the line, the recreation industry. its a mess and i don't see how this area will recover-it's not like someone is going to flip a switch and everyone's back to work! i know more people NOT working the people that are! myself and my wife included, luckly my house is paid off or i don't know where we'd be. even if you want to leave the area-ya have to be able to sell your house first or give it away. i won't even get into what the crime rate is doing.
sooooo that is my little rant for now, thanks

Here is more...

These are pics of my companies NEW plant in Mexico. It will house 3 big cranes and 93 injection molding machines from 120 to 500 ton presses. We plan ( they corporate ) to move 2000 to 2500 individual molds. There is also a Stamping division moving from Traverse City ( 1 of our divisions ) and all jobs there will be lost also. I don't know how big ( press & tool wise ) that plant is but with our 310 jobs from SW Mich it should equal around 500 jobs from Michigan. We are a ford supplier ( 80 % ) they have sanctioned this move in stages. We are not union,we were 1 of the most profitable locations in the corp. We have been purchased by an Equity Company called Platinum Equity. The head honcho of platinum flies his barber around to cut his & his family's hair at 25 K a pop. Michigan is already a 1/2 dead zone , as said above we may not recover ever. Check out the pics of what is happening down there, our new building is huge, the components are new,the labor is cheap, and people there live with bars on their houses. Looks like down town Newark NJ but everywhere. They lock their cars up behind bars in their carports. The most stunning part of this ( to me ) is the enormous AMERICAN presence down in Mexico. The other companies are as impressive and some have NO sign on their buildings or a very small 1 with some letters and a mexican address. Almost like they are incogneedo . The only way I can describe the feeling is " discouraged ". Pretty soon these big corporations will run out of customers to buy their product ( us ). Maybe the US government will bail us snowmobilers out ? Free new sleds for all ????? When the manufacturing base is totally gone in this country then what ??? We go GREEN ????? What a joke. Maybe we can all build windmills...... . The 1 pic is a wiring harness being built for your car ( aka power distrbution ) there are 5 workers on the line at that specific station. Very cheap labor and most of the people live WAY below our standards. Looks like the the only benefit is to the bottom line. Free Trade ??? how about FAIR TRADE .

Sad,....

We'll be "forced" to move to another country just to survive!
They DO have Wal-Marts there also!

When the "middle class" is finally defeated,...
We will be no more.

I need a "Hot Tub Time Machine" to take me to the 50's!
1: So I can enjoy the Booming American Life
2: So I can Stop what would eventually ruin it all

oh ya,.... and so I can smell the brand new interior of a freshly made
100% U.S.A. produced Automobile,....and,.....

~~~~~wake up vin,....wake up!,....~~~~~
Huh?
Dang,... another wishful dream.
:(
look at the clothes those migrant workers wearing their not that poor probly making decent wage for mexico
Bulletin: If they are Mexican citizens working in Mexico, they are not "migrant workers" — unless you qualify as a "migrant worker" by moving from Wisconsin to a job in Arizona!
If you study the Steel industry out of the rust belt, you will see where we here in Michigan are going. They have not recovered from the 1970 busting up.
Go buy a nice brick ranch with basement and garage for peanuts.
WE can blame politicians, though we have known for years that they will take a dollar and cross their own mothers. We can blame government, and unions, and even "the times".
But actually we need to blame ourselves for not paying attention to where the products we buy come from.
Walmart thrives on this price conscious process and we suck it up like no tomorrow. We don't look around to see where things are made, nor do we try to buy American made. But I can assure you that other countries do.
Only today, my wife brought home a box of fruit drinks from Nabisco (National Biscuit Company) which has been around for a century or more, and under the propaganda label, once it was unpackaged, was the good old "made in china" label. She is mad that it was covered up and is taking it back. Month ago, I bought fish....didn't read closely, imported from China. I took it back.
As soon as we become conscious that what we buy and where it was made is as important if not more important than the price, we will have turned the corner. But the last time I brought this up in another forum, I got my head chucked because many thought it was Okay to buy the cheapest thing out there and forget about where it was made...since "all things even out" after awhile.
This is similar to an infection in your toe. Few would guess it would kill you, but it sure can and the leg is now beginning to hurt.
Blame all this on yourselves for not researching and buying American. Tons of websites now are popping up where you can find out products that are made in America. And we should all be taking the big step to preserve our OWN incomes by remembering every single purchase matters. Every one of them.....
Boon: What are the websites you speak off that show American made products. Unfortunately you only see half the point about buying American...but it's been discussed a billion times before, so I won't get it started again. I am interested in the websites though.
kind of reminds me of this internet joke !
John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock
(MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6 am.
While his coffeepot
(MADE IN CHINA )
was perking, he shaved with his
electric razor
(MADE IN HONG KONG )
He put on a
dress shirt
(MADE IN SRI LANKA ),
designer jeans
(MADE IN SINGAPORE )
and
tennis shoes
(MADE IN KOREA)
After cooking his breakfast in his new
electric skillet
(MADE IN INDIA )
he sat down with his
calculator
(MADE IN MEXICO )
to see how much he could spend today.. After setting his
watch
(MADE IN TAIWAN )
to the radio
(MADE IN INDIA )
he got in his car
(MADE IN GERMANY )
filled it with GAS
(from Saudi Arabia )
and continued his search
for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.
At the end of yet another discouraging
and fruitless day
checking his
Computer
(made in MALAYSIA ),
John decided to relax for a while.
He put on his sandals
(MADE IN BRAZIL ),
poured himself a glass of
wine
(MADE IN FRANCE )
and turned on his
TV
(MADE IN INDONESIA ),
and then wondered why he can't
find a good paying job
in AMERICA
AND NOW HE'S HOPING HE CAN GET HELP FROM A PRESIDENT
MADE IN KENYA !
