Oneida County Update 1-23-25

We did receive a little over two inches of fluff yesterday...every little bit counts right....there is a good 6 inches in my back yard now. You really can't say this year is like last year....it's been much colder...while we are lacking in the snow department...we are not lacking ICE...the lakes have solid ice, and with the snow cover are rideable...last year the ice was never safe, and were variable from lake to lake...this year...different story.....this season reminds me more of 2018-19...where we started slow, and had thin snow...but got hammered in February and March...it's trending that way...let's hope it happens.

Right now Oneida County is watching Vilas County open with success, with less than ideal conditions....I know the clubs in my area (Lake Nokomis, north of Tomahawk)..have been and are out panning again today. Locals have been running the ditches, and lakes, and having fun. The pressure on Oneida county and the snowmobile clubs (from local businesses) is enormous right now...so I guess we'll see.

I think you hit the head on the nail with pressure from the businesses on these clubs. Main reason Vilas opened. To be honest though trails weren't that bad overall. Are they up to normal standards for Vilas no. I will be surprised if Onedia can keep them closed. On the plus side looks like we may be picking up a little in moisture according to climate prediction center. Now it just needs to pan out

I can only imagine the pressure to open Oneida. Iron opened a week ago, Vilas the next day, it was pretty thin but since then we have gotten around 7” of snow, still not perfect as Hermie stated but very rideable and smiles on the business owners faces. Hope it happens soon for Oneida!

It seems like western Oneida has significantly more snow than eastern side or southeastern quadrant. I would bet with the smaller snows coming and a possible clipper that might get out of hand on Tuesday, they would open. But just a few days ago there was a picture out of Rhinelander showing nearly bare ground on some trails.

With a high of 43 on Thursday and full sun anything not in the woods will be gone starting from scratch. Can’t believe people are complaining in Oneida County about not open, there is barely any snow cover. We need a big storm fast or it’s over for awhile, couple inches isn’t going to help

Ya pretty much.
What's the status with the storm that was supposed to hit there this weekend.

AccuWeather says 2-4” through Wednesday morning but I’m not seeing it. We sure could use it.
