1/29/25–PSA
After careful consideration, the Oneida County Snowmobile Council has made the decision to keep the Oneida County Snowmobile Trail System closed. Oneida County Snowmobile Council will be continuing to honor the previously conducted vote to keep the Oneida County Snowmobile Trails closed due to poor snow conditions.
As the custodians of the trail system, both on public and private lands, we understand the privilege it is to use these trails and do not want to abuse that privilege and/or risk rider safety.
The Oneida County Snowmobile Council will review the opening decision as soon as conditions change

At this time based on my travels through Oneida county from north to south on Hwy 51 I would agree. It’s thin on the north end, my wife said we received 1/2” in MW overnight, way short of the 2-4” forecasted. There was very little in the south end of the county and with the warm weather I would imagine that it hasn’t faired well. It is what it is at this point, Vilas seems to be getting enough small snowfalls to keep the trails rideable. Thursday could be brutal, but some more snow forecast for the weekend.

People have to understand there is not enough snow out there, and it's not safe...We want to be open, we are a business club (not a social club)...nobody wants to be open more than us...but we will NOT open, if it's not safe and if it means losing potential trails in the future..our club alone as 30 something private land owners allowing trail access...several have asked not to open gates on their land if there is low snow....we respect that and will honor their wishes...it sucks...but we can't control mother nature...we all want to be riding...but we are gonna have to wait

update..looking more positive....pretty much all of our local weather guys are saying 2 to 4 inches tomorrow into sunday...with the potential for more accumulating snow next week...it will take more than two inches to open Oneida county trails after the warm weather the last two days...but at least it's looking better

THEY (the weather folks) are pretty much on agreement and sticking with 2 to 4 inches (though a couple are saying 1 to 3)....more to the north, less to the south...and they've bumped up Sunday night into Monday for possibly 1" to 2"...we'll just have to wait and see what it does, and keep our fingers crossed

Attackman, how much are you thinking it will take to get trails opened up?

I think 4 to 6 is going to force them to open
But I feel 6 to 10 would be better...didnt get enough over night...only a little over an inch here...expecting another 1 to 3 tonight, with another inch tomorrow, and possibly more on Wednesday...if we get the higher totals..it will be close..I guess we'll see

Good news...Nws just upgraded the snow tonight into Monday...they put us under a winter weather advisory for 3 to 5 inches of snow..this sysyem is more south thus vilas and iron are not expected to get as much, and are not in the advisory....if we get it...it could go a long way to getting these trails open

Hopefully you get it looks like some more on Wednesday. Was hoping last night snow would of been better but from the looks of the radar last night it stayed well north.

Drove back to Chicago from Presque Isle yesterday and crossing the bridge over Minocqua my wife asked me why there were no barrels out. I'm guessing it is because trails are not open?? Anybody??

I believe that’s the Minocqua Forest riders turf? Good question. You’re probably right as Oneida Co has not opened. Though there’s lots of ice fishing traffic out there.

Yeah ...its weird...for a club that's all hellfire to open up, and getting pissy with other clubs that don't want to, due to low snow...you'd think they mark their lakes.(so people could at least run the lakes if they wanted)..northwoods passage has nokomis marked, and I believe oneida lake is al so marked....we just need snow, and those gates will open...we're ready!!

Unfortunately...so far less than an inch here over night..looks like heavier bands are setting up south of here...but it is still snowing...not looking like we'll see much more out of this one...I'll keep ya posted
