After our brief warm up/thaw last weekend...we froze back up and added ice during the week with much colder temps....on Sunday, there were side by sides, atvs, and sleds out on Nokomis, and I'm hearing 8 to 10 inches of Ice....we have between 1-3 inches of snow on the ground...so it's not a brown Christmas like last year...but it is rather thin...we are expecting a dusting to an inch of snow today...but nothing major in the forecast. A Gradual Warm up is coming, temps could reach low 40s with RAIN now in the forecast from Thursday night through Saturday night. This is not good news for those of us wanting to ride. The lakes right now are at a good place (compared to last year)......we'll just have to wait and see what damage this warm and rain does to the lakes and swamps at the end of the week.....at this point it is highly unlikely that trails here will open by the new year....the ice is almost there...but we are lacking snow. Once again we are on hold for mother nature. I'll update this next weekend with what's out there. (after our rain and thaw)...it's frustrating but what can we do...keep doing those snow dances, and pray for cold weather. Try and enjoy the holiday, and Have a Merry Christmas

We have yet to have ice on the larger inland lakes & your forecast outlook is pretty much the same here in the Kee. This mornings temps started out in the low 20's & have now reached 31. No meaningful snow expected in the next 24 hrs in this part of the UP however, South Central & Eastern UP could see some affect's from a clipper system with a bit of wet heavy snow. The roller coaster weather pattern continues.

UPDATE...we have light mist...been misting on and off since last night...temps stayed in the 30's over night....lakes look like crap already, with water and slush on top of the ice...we were seeing 8 to 10 inches of ice on most area lakes...not sure how bad this will effect it...but it's ugly, and we are expecting 1/2 to 3/4 inches of rain today through tonight with two different bands coming up from the south...its starting to put a dent in what little snow cover we have....so...we will be starting over...on a positive note...more seasonal temps (colder air) are expected next week, which should help us freeze things back up....but as of right now there is ZERO snow in the next 7 to 10 day extended forecast. Not the start we wanted for the season.

I think I would prefer to be in your position as far as the amount of snow is concerned. We are also expecting rain here in the Keweenaw, between 1/2 to 3/4" worth through Saturday. This combined with temps in the upper 30's to near 40 through the first half of next week. Cooler temps possible after the new year which will turn everything into ice & rock hard snow.

AND I'm sure you guys have everybody and their uncle riding there this weekend.....and they will ride in the rain, and burn the trails down to the mud.

There has been a fair amount of activity, not crazy crazy, but busier
saw alot of trucks and trailer heading north on hwy 51 yesterday and today....it's unfortunate for us here...I fear another late start/no start is going to close alot of these smaller businesses (they limped through last year)...it's a major ouch for our economy here in the Northwoods

Welp...nothing good to report..the rain and warm temps melted what little snow we had, and the lakes are a mess.....the colder weather expected this week should tighten the lakes back up...but the swamps are a whole different issue....as somebody else mentioned it's hit the reset button...we start over...but there is little to no snow in the extended forecast...if and when the conditions change in a positive direction I'll post up here...but until then we are in a holding pattern.
