If you are planning your trip for this weekend here's how it looks (I rode some, and got reports from groomer driver's and friends who rode them).
The strange thing this year is...There is less snow to the north...more to the south...Minocqua area had 4.5 inches from Saturday's storm, Nokomis had 6" plus, south Tomahawk (Knight Owls) had 7.5"...our groomer operator reported 10-12 inches at the Taylor/Lincoln County line. So I think you will find better riding heading south and either east from Tomahawk, towards Langlade County, or South and West Towards Taylor County. Keep in mind Lincoln and Langlade remained closed over the weekend, and not only did they receive more snow in those areas..but they had no sleds ripping up the snow as it fell....AND after the clubs panned and grooming those trails, it was 17 below zero this morning....the trails I checked out were smooth flat and white..they looked awesome..Should be real good conditions for the opener down there. (Lincoln and Langlade) ...Trails took more of a beating around Lake Nokomis, swamp lake, and the Willow region, with heavy traffic over the weekend...the clubs are working to get them back into shape by this weekend...there is some snirt on the rail road grade, and on the heavily traveled trails...watch for some ice in the corners as well....a little fresh snow would definitely help those areas...same goes for the Minocqua/Lake Tom area...lots of thin spots and snirt especially in town...again it's strange to see more snow in the southern part of Oneida, and Northern Lincoln than up by Minocqua...but that's what it is right now.
