Sorry to hear your frustrations.
I based out of Tomahawk from Fri-Sat. We left Saturday around 4pm. I was actually the only truck/trailer in Rodeway inn and suites. I was quite surprised by that.
Trails were pretty flat on Friday, but little low on the snow. I actually had to put the scratchers on Friday morning. It was cold and a packed base. We rode Harrison Hills area on Friday. Definitely more snow towards Langlande county. Had to have the hand and boot warmers for my boy!
We left Sat around 8am and trails were great all morning! We ran west on 86, north on 19, and 5 up to Willow Flowage. I could tell it was thinner there before the new snow, but new snowfall was perfect. All of 3 us(dad, wife) are all club members down here, that mark, brush, and groom. I even incorporate this thoughtfulness when I teach the DNR safety class. I drive it home about respecting other people!
I also do stand when I ride
We respected the trail conditions and were aware of the lighter snow. We only ran into 3 sleds the first 45 miles.
Traffic really picked up in the afternoon. Some trails were pretty worn down the closer you got to Tomahawk.
I think some of them might be able to be salvaged this week's cold if the groomers can pull some snow in.
Like others have said, there just wasn't any base. This was supposed to be a heavier, wetter snow, but was not... That's what is causing shitty conditions all over the state with this new snow. The sun was already melting areas yesterday when I rode locally around Columbia county. I only put on 15 miles just to get out for a little bit.
If they did wait, you would have had better conditions throughout the week. However, we're at the end of the season already. And next week does not look good. Tough spot. I feel bad for businesses. Been tough last 2 years. Every place was was packed that I went by, and I stopped in. I saw a lot of families out, which was good.
I do feel the trespassing tickets and aftermarket exhaust need a fine of minimum of $1k, if not more. Might as well make that $2k! I feel we need to get ride of the online only course for anyone over 16. That doesn't teach anything....
I appreciate your work you put into this sport! I get overwhelmed myself with all the different jobs and tasks for our club and county association.
I tell everyone, snow fixes a lot of issues, but just hasn't had it this year(again). I see the same snow pattern this week for south and east. Midwest has just been bare(outside LES)....
