Overfilling chaincase is that a problem?

Is overfilling your chaincase a problem if you dont take out the extra? I have 3 sleds and cant seem to get the right amount in them because the clear chaincase fluid is hard to see on the stick. The last one I changed the fluid is 1 1/2 to 2 inches bbove the safe area.

Yep has no where to go when heats up & expands unless you have an over flow. Also pressure could blow seal.

I would drain it and get a cheap plastic cup measure and mark the correct amount on the measure, then pour the oil in there to get the correct amount.

It won't hurt anything if it's overfull. Worst case you may see oil come out the overflow/breather.

If the breather/overflow was plugged it would be better to have the chaincase totally full of oil. Oil expands alot less than air when warmed up.

Less expansion = Less pressure.

I would get it to proper level. it may come out breather and make a mess! worst case=this is not too far from brakes,need i say more

I agree.

We can only hope that the manufacturers of these machines were smart enough to put the breather in a spot where that won't happen.

Chain case leak

I had a leak with my cover on a trip last year and filled the case with alot of oil...never had a issue other than leak'n more. I got tired of filling the case daily with the Poo chain case oil @ $14 a quart and ended up putting in some Marine greese and never messed with the case until a rebuild of all 4 bearings in the summer.

Why not just put in the amount that it says to in the owners' manual? My fusion takes 11 oz so I poured 11 oz in there. You can't see the stupid glass window anyway without pulling the exhaust off, and even if you could, I bought clear fluid this time so I couldn't see it anyway.
