John, don't know if you have heard about this research project by the Severe Storms Laboratory. Was listening to a podcast/weather show over the net and the guest was Josh Wurman and he plugged this as his latest research and I thought it was pretty cool to see them studying lake effect snow: http://owles.org/

I did see where this study was going to be going on. I think they even were able to be there during a decent event.

Wish we had ANY kind of radar data for the Keweenaw, let alone a DOW.

Yeah, from the interview with Josh it sounded like they got some great data. Time to do a kickstarter program and get a ham radio licensee to setup a weather radar system up there. I'm sure some tv station is going to upgrade to dual pol and a used system can be got.. laughing! Wonder what Baron gets for a small radar?

I find it interesting that someone decided to study LES and try to learn more about it, I'd imagine any little study will advance forecasting.
