Hi everyone, my firehouse (Palos Fire Protection District Station 1) has entered a national contest through Ikea and the Family Handyman for a $25K kitchen remodel. We are one of 5 firehouses in the finals. It is up to the public to vote for the winner. You can vote on-line at www.rescueremodel.com. One vote per day per IP address until Feb 28th. Please vote for this each day and pass the link along to anyone you know. Your votes will certainly help.. Thanks, Jim Graben

Thanks Windingtrailgal and Ezra, Did you get a look at the condition of our kitchen now? Check the pics in the link. By the way. we have recently laid off F/F's and are closing our second station regularly in order to keep costs down. Thanks for the support. See you on the trails some day.

Jim, just because I am such an informed voter, I read the others in the running as well. The budget crap for you guys is what got me. AND because you are supposed to be getting my tax dollars via our amazingly corrupt county and state!

Ezra - hey now! IKEA isn't as nice as what YOU would do...but it'll be a heckava lot better than what they've got! You've gotta hand it to IKEA for offering up the 25k!

got my vote.ikea is ok as long as you take some extra steps when having assembly day.glue every joint and also nail it along with the stock toggle bolts and the stuff is ok.
we have done a few of them I just dont see the savings. when a homeowner buys this stuff stacks the boxes up in the corner then pays me 50bucks a hr per guy to put this stuff together it costs more than low end medallion /schrock/kraftmaid etc etc stuff .
what is goofy is the tiny European appliances and the cabinets made for them.

We call IKEA the highest quality particle board money can buy! :) But you're right...a little reinforcement and it's much better. And I like that someone is paying you $50/hr to put it together...but I personally am too cheap for THAT! I do so enjoy the HOURS of assembly required for me end product!? ;)

Another vote in-right now a sizeable lead for Palos, so everybody needs to vote so it's a clear cut runaway. BTW.....thanks to all fire and rescue personnel for putting your lives on the line day in and day out.
