Anyone know a way to get a passport in a short amount of time? Planned a trip to the UP for the 14th of March, but the weather doesn't look good for good riding by then and our group was considering to go to wawa Ontario. Problem, I don't have a passport and courthouse says 3 to 6 weeks to get one. Anyone knw a short cut to get one quick.

I wouldn't be too concerned about conditions here in the Keweenaw in that time line, at least not yet.. We have a lot of snow. Barring anything cataclysmic you should be good to go.:encouragement::cool:-Mezz

Wife says the quickest way is to go to the nearest regional passport agency which is Chicago. Same day service is about $349. Hope that helps. I believe the enhanced DL works also as stated above.

Drivers License, and Original Birth Certificate, if you don't have a passport, is what the Border Office told us. We are in Illinois, and are going to be crossing at Sault St. Marie

Thanks for the help everyone, and rehead2 I was wondering if you checked with the U.S. office about getting back to the states without a passport.

For sure, when the agent askes you "have you ever been in trouble?" good luck...
I tried the "yes, who hasnt?" with a smile, gave some examles from youth and sat there for hours, they found an "expunged" event but missed a dui from 20 years ago, finally let me in for free but a guy with us had to pay $280 to get in for an assult charge from 1986

Just a heads up about passports, not a problem for Canada though. Heading to Ireland Friday and was told that for some countries your passport must be valid for up to 6 months from the date you depart. So even if you have a valid and current passport make sure you check the expiration date and the country of travel. My GF will expire in June and we leave Friday, heard that Ireland does not have the 3 or 6 months expiration clause but shes calling today.

That is the general rule, but not hard and followed. Some countries are more rigid than others.
