Paulding/Bergland (or thereabouts) to Bayfield on a sled

The toughest part is getting around the casino and Ashland. The trail stops at the casino. The snow stops at Ashland. You will need to find a southern route, but anything is doable in a day if you want to ride.

WOW that would be a long ride! Snow is usually pretty thin around Ashland, where in Bayfield are you headed?

This goes back about 18 years or so, but we snowmobiled the Ashland, Washburn, and Bayfield areas then. I would recommend starting your trip in Ashland. As favoritos said, it will be time consuming getting around the casino from the direction your coming from. Ashland has everything you need as far as lodging, restaurants, etc.. As I remember, we had a very good time for 3 or 4 days riding. This is one of those trips you have to plan around the snow. It isn't always the greatest in that area, so when they get it you have to be ready to go. But if the snow is good, it is some nice territory and enjoyable riding. This was actually my first snowmobile trip on a borrowed sled that got me into snowmobiling.

We will be in Paulding/Bergland area. We always plan one overnight, last year it was Bergland to Copper. This year thinking of making Marquette the overnight, but also thinking Bayfield/Ashland. Just having difficulty getting a handle on the mileage/time.

Marquette overnight no problem & should have good snow all the way midseason January on planning around thaws & rainstorms. Probably a bit boring a lot of grade if you like that sort of riding then you will luv it based from Bergland. A lot better trail options, mixed bag, from Paulding to Marquette going a bit southeast then northeast but very remote & not well traveled. The kind of stuff I like but not for everyone! December UP still can be spotty depending on which way the wind blows & where gets blessed with most LES which in some years has been the Marquette area.

I think you would be fine for time on a overnight trip to Bayield, Ashland area. You could take the trail from Island Lake to Mellon and up to Ashland area, Stay overnight, then loop back slightly west and south towards Clam Lake down to Tuscobia, over to Park Falls, then to Manitowish, Winchestor, and then back to your starting place. I wouldn't let the fact the trail from Saxon to Ashland is closed deter me, if its good snow do it. I ride from Hurley to that area and back in the same day quite often, so I would think an overnight stay from Bergland Area would be fine. I wish I could give some trail numbers but my maps are up north, sorry for that.
