We spend that week in Eagle River now annually. I have been surprised on how little traffic there has been on the week days, it does pick up for new years but not like I would have thought.
Still, its best like another said to go West or East 50 miles. We spend as much of the time as we can trailering from Eagle River to the UP though. Its much safer and better riding.

I'm based from Phelps & I ride North or East of Phelps never in Eagle River. Phelps to Lando trails hold up very well compared to ER. All depends on what you want to do? Off trail, Fire Roads, Lake Blasts or 300 mile days on trail or combination of all. Phelps has it all & trails always well groomed. ER is another story & very busy place more of a sled rental hub at Xmas or really anytime of year.
Given that you are trying to do a time share swap I would pick Phelps and sled up into the UP from there. If you want the hub-bub of Eagle river it can definitely be fun, but sledding will not be as good.
Nicolet Shores Condos across lake from me so you will have the lake to ride out your front door + fire roads to trails. Stay out of Eagle River, and Minocqua very heavy trail traffic. You will have to ride for lunch dinner or breakfast unless you intend to cook in condo. Very good places to eat & drink on North Twin Lake you just need to know how to get to them by sled. Usually we get System snow Thanksgiving or so then more in Dec plus LES every couple of days in Dec. Phelps to Lando trails hold up well plus East out of Phelps but East is remote not many gas opportunities. I mostly ride North to UP sometimes marked trails to UP sometimes Fire Roads just depends on logging patterns. South you have the Three Lakes system super trails if enough snow the Kimbal trail is a fav.
