Pics from a beer truck....Just a rant..

I had an unenviable encounter at one of my account today as they were upset with me. Said I've been posting here an that I've been telling people the trails are bad. I have done these threads for years and the only reason I started them was I personally got sick of getting reports that were better than what I felt they were. That's why my threads rarely give opinion and are just pics. You be the judge. I also feel for the guy who lives 400 miles away and is trying to make a call on whether to go on a trip or call it off based on someone else's opinion. Please Please do not go into any of the bars I deliver to and say negative things about my posts or I will have no choice but to stop them.

Simple .....Nobody riding northern Wi because the trails suck. I have not posted many trail conditions this year either even the good not that good in Wi. I feel for all Ma & Pa's biz in northern Wi so thought it best to keep my condition thoughts to myself. Unless there is a dumping not sure riders want to come up? I had Biz in ER get pissed at me maybe 5-6 years ago told them it is what it is & I'm not going to lie so know exactly what you mean.

My buds and I talk about this very thing all the time. We are heading to Mercer in the morning. Historically locals on this board will rate trails a lot worse than we would rate them if we were doing it. I guess it's just a matter of opinion just like anything else. We look at the cams and check some reports here and there then we make the call based on what we see and read. Our expectations this year are that we will get there and say 'why is everybody bashing these trails, they aren't bad'. That being said we just got our first measurable snow in southern Illinois last night, about 4". Just enough to tempt someone to go out and stick a culvert while banging a ditch along a gravel road. So I guess our expectations are different than those of someone who lives close enough to be there when trails are fantastic vs. someone who makes the nine hour trek when time and conditions allow
Even though we've only been to the UP one time I really like checking your pictures beer man, it would suck if you quit posting but I definitely understand your perspective.

mike: i have never read a post from the beer truck where you talked poorly about conditions . I am sure all business owners are pissed about lack of conditions .

I post pictures with my reports with the dates visible in the pic. Its a snapshot of the current conditions. Nothing more, nothing less.

What readers need to remember is conditions will usually change, either better or worse.

Its amazing how many people in Bayfield have absolutely no clue about the snow conditions. Not just this year, but in the past as well.

I own a bar in Tomahawk. We my wife & I are avid snowmobilers (3500 miles a year before we bought bar) I used to hate it when you would call someplace n they would tell you trails are GREAT! When at best they were fair to poor. Mike PLEASE keep up the good work! Don't let a few spoil what your doing for everyone else. If they call me I say it like it is money in my pocket or not REAL sledders like the truth no sugarcoat! It is what it is!

I ride this area ALOT and can tell by your pics what kind of conditions the trails are in.
Tell the bar owners you bring more riders in because when surrounding areas are poor like Lakewood and Crivitz nobody knows how good the trails are in the Dunbar ,Pembine, Florence area until they see your posted pics. I have rode this area instead of trucking to the UP many times because of your reports. Keep the coming Mike.

Yep getting to the point where it is not worth it to me to post where I have ridden & what I saw....my buds are posting so fine with me. I'm not about to ride marginal conditions & say how wonderful it is when it is not more than rideable imo. If you are going to Mercer you should be ok riding northeast & then north in UP. In vilas the best of it is BJ & north again in UP. Right now most of Vilas is getting icy & dry but to each his own...enjoy.

I wasn't upset with the owner. I was upset with whoever views these threads and said bad things to the owner about what I post here.

If my income would be put in jeopardy over what I posted on this or any site, I'd stop in a heartbeat.....it's just not worth it. IMO

Oh....most of the trails (just gotta know which ones to avoid) west and NW of Mercer are fine with plenty of snow on them. I was THERE last weekend. Trails in the far western UP were junk.

Mike, that is garbage that you're catching **** over the pics. I appreciate your pictures and they are only one factor in deciding whether to ride an area or not. I'm sure frustration is running high in Northern Wisconsin over the no/low snow and loss of business. I sure hope the same businesses that are giving you grief over your pics/posts show you some serious appreciation when people actually choose to ride because they saw your pics. Keep fighting the good fight brother!

I've drove UP three times over the years to see less than described conditions, just to pull out of the parking lot and head somewhere else. You have to be positively honest or you won't get the return business.

I rode in Hougton last weekend, and drove back Sunday...trails actually looked pretty good through most of Florence county other than the grade, and Dunbar south about 15 miles still looked rideable and flat. I would have dumped off in that area and rode, but again last weekend. Once you got past that line north of Wausaukee, no freakin way. Crivitz had less snow than my place north of Green Bay.

Not sure what they will be like this weekend, going a bit further north again myself but that is just where the cabin is. Sorry to hear about your conflict, even if I don't ride the area much I do drive through that area a lot and appreciate the pics regardless.

Keep posting beer guy.....I don't recall you even commenting beyond what the pics say.

As most of your pics are at road crossings I figure I am seeing the worse of conditions because of the very nature of a crossing. If that area looks decent the trails will always be better.

Totally agree!!!
Sometimes the truth just hurts, plain and simple. But to put that on you (delivery guy) is total b.s.
Keep up good work beer man!
