There will be gas in White Pine at Kontenka, but it's been 87 octane, which I won't use. What I would do is bring a couple of 6 gallon cans of it and use that only in an emergency. Otherwise, always fill in Bergland or elsewhere before heading home for the night. Bergland is straight down trail 1 about 18 miles or so. Worse case if you're near empty in the morning put 2 gallons out of your 6 gallon cans and head to Bergland.

I'm not sure if you've stayed in SC before, but snow is very thin there due to being so close to the lake. A few miles inland and it begins to pile up! Great trails leading out of SC too. Have fun!

Mark is right on....Kontenka is a great place to stay good food, bar, bowling, large parking lot, good room & gas. However premium gas or any gas for that matter is a severe problem in that area & Bergland only close alternative. Maybe Kontenka will start selling a midgrade lots of small UP gas stations do this you will have to check with Kontenka. White Pine much better starting & return point SC scabby conditions no gas.

another option is to carry a bottle of octane boost. they come in bottles about the same size as fuel injector cleaner. you could use this option for the premium only sleds when premium gas isn't available.

This is what we do also. We carry Torco Octane Boost. A little pricey but great product. Do not get the Octane Boost from Wal-Mart or any of those discount stores. Get the good stuff.

If you decide to stay at Kontenka remember that it's the only gas in the area, and there will be about 100 sleds buzzing around till the bar/gas pump shuts down......Nice place, but something to keep in mind if you like to turn in early. When we stayed there it was a little pricey....
