plowing snow with a Yamaha Rhino

so, I recently bought a plow for my Rhino and have been using it quite a bit. My folks got it for me as a early Christmas present but they allowed me to pick it out with price being a factor. I checked out eBay and saw a 66' "Denali" plow sold by "Moto Alliance." The listing had a 3 day sale for the price of $453 and free shipping. I did some research and checked it out compared to other plows and was impressed with the quality so that's the one I picked. Plow came in 3 days and took about 2 hrs to install. I already had a winch on the Rhino so I was all set. My drive is a little tough to plow with the truck because I have some obstacles to deal with this Rhino really kicks butt plowing. I can go right down the sidewalk and clean up areas that I have had to use a snow blower on. Dow at the town hall I can plow around the entire building and do little hand work.

There is no way I could replace the truck with this small set up but it is exactly what I needed with multiple properties when a truck is just to big for all areas. No more running the snow blower up the ramps and into the truck. This Rhino plow set up is the ticket for me and I couldn't be happier. Yesterday I ripped the tire off the plow truck caught on the edge of a culvert so I have no choice to plow more with the Rhino till my tires come on Fri so I'll try an post some picks or maybe even a video. Remember, this in not just a toy to play around with but a real practical application with the machine being heavy enough to move snow. Good thing Rhino's are heavy. Maybe us Yamaha snowmobile owners can hook a plow to our sleds,,,,lol!

nice to here about the plow lenny, i have always wondered how my rhino would push snow as my drive is about 3 tenths of a mile long..i think it would work great on the lighter snows and for clean up around garage.I to have a plow on the truck but i don't leave it hooked up all winter. is your plow on the rhino power angle ?

Those things will push a lot of snow my old neighbor had one. When I lived in se Wisconsin I use to plow a few areas in Geneva National outside of lake Geneva about 25-30 driveways and wish I had one of these for that place some pretty tight driveways.

My dad had one on his rhino when he still had it. I used it a few times at our camp to plow .7 miles of 2-track. With 2 beefy guys in the seats for ballast, I easily pushed 2+ feet of settled snow. It was flat out amazing. In the summer, it doubled duty as a mini-skidder hauling full length maple trees from the bush back to camp for firewood.

I don't have the power angle but it can be bolted on very easily. Do a YouTube search for Denali UTV plow and they have the power angle

A Rhino is a real utility machine capable of doing a lot of work and I couldn't be happier with mine.

Lenny,

I am looking at the same plow. The guy Pete at motoalliance and I have been in touch about pricing. yours seems like a good price. I am looking at the 72 inch blade as my rzr xp 4 900 is about 62" wide.

I had a plow for a 4 wheeler about 10 yrs ago, a moose plow. and I actually bent some parts a few times. does the plow seem pretty sturdy?? I know anything can be bent or broke, but in gen'l it seems pretty good?

might buy one.

Hey Chris,

I am happy with the quality of the plow. The entire set up is heavy and seems about as much as I'd like to connect to the machine. Plowing technique is a huge factor for me. It didn't take long to learn not to plow fast and hard, it's hard on everything and I want it to last. I suppose I could bend it if I am in a hurry but like I said, it seems adequate and should last as long as I take care of it. I learned to plow slow with weight and size of the cut. If I have to I take a half cut and it's easy on the machine and mount. Not trying to give you a plow lesson but I believe we could bend any plow if you work it hard enough. Tonight I plowed with it for 2 hrs straight and learned the set up and it's capabilities and came home very happy with the set up. I just take my time and ease the snow around and plow should last a good long time, well worth the money. Keep in mind the blade size should be in proportion to the weight and size of the machine. if you match the plow to big it does stress the mount and connections. I could have went larger but I am glad I didn't because lots of stress when blade sticks out way past width of machine, easy to bend stuff. I plan to get the power angle and blade shields someday. Good luck with your decision!

Sounds like the perfect, practical Christmas present that will get tons of use in your neck of the woods! Anytime you can avoid hand work, shoveling or snowblowing, you save more energy for sledding! ;)

I've been plowing with an Arctic Cat Prowler since 2008, wouldn't have it any other way for the very same reasons as Lenny. I have since up-graded to a 2011 Prowler which has EPS (electronic power steering), what a treat that is when plowing in tight area's! I've got a 72" tapered straight blade with 2 angle adjustments though it is not a power angle. This thing works much better than past blade set ups I've had & much more durable. Quick connect to the front of the frame, takes seconds to connect & disconnect. no crawling around on the floor to put pins in & no more bent push tubes. I don't believe I would ever be without this kind of set up, that being the SxS with plow. Prowler Snow Plow.jpg Here is what you need Chris... Yep, put out the first shout out to Meester Bleezard last week, hasn't stopped since. The only problem is Aunty Arctic is hanging around a bit too long, apparently her & Uncle LES are on speaking terms. I like Uncle LES, not so much of a fan of Aunty Arctic though, she too damn cold!-Mezz

it's only gettin easier and easier plowing. No need to plow in low range, dif lock or chains on tires. Works real good

Chris, did you decide on a plow?

Ya I think I am going to get the Denali blade like you have. it is crazy snowy this yr. I really had a foot here this morning and took a ride to the store at 7 am, and a couple of miles away I bet they only had 4 inches. crazy.

I'll keep you posted.

looks like you plow frame Lenny looks pretty beefy. The part looks thicker where you adjust the angle then I remember seeing and that's a good thing.

I don't find much need to angle the blade unless I am trying to cut down a side. I am going to fabricate some plow shields real soon and that will really be a game changer. Plowing with a unit lighter than a truck is a learning curve especially when you are used to a truck and for me the versatility of getting into tight places is what I was looking for. From watch a YouTube video of Moto Alliance I see they have been improving design and that's a good thing for a company to continue to do.

Good luck, can't wait to see you post pick of your rig in action!

Lenny, here's how we roll with plowing in the Keweenaw, at least, how I roll. When at the top of the world, you must plow to the top, cause there just never seems like there is enough room to stash the white stuff. In area's like this, you have to pile it as high as you can, some area's, you go back as far as you can, then pile it up. I do have a snow dump at the end of my dead end street that is on a hill which takes care of my driveway & the street coming up to the house. You can't do this stuff with a pick up. This makes good use of the SxS in the winter. I had to put a stereo system in though, too many hours plowing to not have something to help pass the time.-Mezz Snowplowing Prowler 004.jpg Snowplowing Prowler 005.jpg Snowplowing Prowler 001.jpg By the way, I'm kind of interested to see Chris's Polaris 900 4 seater plowing as well, kinda like plowing with a limo....LOL!
