Polaris 600 Shift - tunnel protector installation

I have a 2010 600 Shift. Do the protectors just slide in over the "T" rail that protrudes out of the coolers? What holds the wear strip in place? The kit I bought seems crazy long and also includes two shorter pieces as well. Any help is appreciated.

the two long ones are your hi faxes.the short ones get held in by those rectangular aluminum pieces.I will explain,first you have to take off the black cover over your mudflap,then the rear bumber,then drill out the rivets for your mudflap.when thats all out.you will see those two holes.you need to file those alittle wider if the plastic protector doesn't fit through.Then when you get those put on.you rivet those 2 aluminum pieces i was talking about earlier.those hold the protector from coming out.then put everything back. lots of fun,lol.call me if you need too.608-235-4786.dan

I'm in the middle of this myself on an '09 shift 136.

The short white ones bolt to the long one and then you slide the long one on the t channel as you would think you would.

The picture at the bottom is what you need to look at to figure this out, you may need to create an account over there.

The snowflap bracket needs to be taken off to do this and re-installed when they're on. it will not hold it on unless your worried about it coming off in reverse. That's why you need the long hyfax on the whole length of the tunnel, That hits the front of the tunnel and holds it in place.

Thanks for the help guys. I got them done tonight. Dan, this kit didn't come with the aluminum plates but looking at the picture in the Polaris parts book, they are shown. I don't know how they would have worked for my sled though cuz there is no way to fasten them to anything.

The one problem I ran into was that the strips were supposed to be held in place by screws on the back side. There is a hole where the strips are supposed to screw into the aluminum rails. Only problem is there is no way to drill them out because of the angle??

I ended up putting some general purpose adhesive inside the channels of the strips before sliding them onto the rails. I sure hope that holds! We'll see. Thanks again.

Polarisman_98 mentions about the screws that go through the tunnel protectors to hold them in place, you do not drill any holes through the extrusions that the protectors slide onto, the screws, from what I understand, are to keep the protectors from being driven forward if the track were ever to touch them. As you will notice from the second picture, the screw is actually to the rear of the extrusion.

Those screws(which are horizontal through the protector) only need to be tightened a small amount.

Thanks xcsp, I didn't even think of that. I was staring at the dumb thing wondering how I was going to drill through the rails and thread the bolt through. Putting it behind the rails to keep the strips from sliding forward into the bulkhead makes sense! I will do that tomorrow night.
 
Did it (correctly this time) tonight. I would have sure saved some time if I had done it right the first time. The bolts to hold it in place behind the rails make so much more sense. I didn't realize the strips needed to be all the way back.
