Polaris Chaincase cover

I know this is a well known issue with the Polaris plastic chaincase covers leaking but could someone verify if the magnesium chaincase cover from an 09 (Polaris figured out this issue from earlier years) would fit on an 08? Visually, they appear to be the same size. The OEM part numbers are different but I assume that is because the newer year was changed over to magnesium from plastic. Part numbers for the plug, gasket, etc. are all the same except the cover. My sled already has the metal bracket installed and is still leaking but I just want to tear it down, replace the gasket, install a new metal cover, and go from there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have had those apart numerous times and never had one leak. I never replace the gaskets, just take it off, clean it, and loosen it up and reinstall. Is your cover warped?

I haven't inspected it too closely. I just noticed that it had leaked in my garage in the UP. I just bought a place and brought my sleds up mid-December from IL. I thought since it gets much colder up north, it leaked due to that. The sled was a rental from out west and I bought it at Haydays back in 2010. It was leaking then and I replaced the plug and o-ring and has been fine since. This past week I was up north and rode my SKS because the RMK had leaked chaincase oil. It was suggested by a friend to just go ahead and put the metal cover on instead of the stock plastic one.....I have read a lot about these leaking so I figured I would fix it the best way I could..... a metal cover. I appreciate your feedback!

I would look up the chain case for your sled, then look up the chain case for the newer model and see if they have the same part numbers.

skeeter......I have done that but the part numbers are different because the 08 chaincase cover was plastic, the 09 chaincase cover is magnesium. I assume that is because the parts technically are different but that doesn't mean they aren't interchangeable. I have reviewed the diagrams for the OEM parts and they look the same. I was just wondering if anyone knew for sure. I called a local dealer and he couldn't answer this question. I know there are after-market fixes....I just thought buying the Polaris part would be as easy.....thanks!
