Polaris Edge rear skid question

I blew the clutch side driveshaft bearing last week so I decided to pull the skid and driveshaft out to check everthing. One of the rear skid holes (tunnel) has elongated and I can see that it will not tighten down properly. So, 2 questions.
1. What is the best way to fix the elongated hole?
2. Can I mount the skid to lower holes on the bracket that is riveted to the tunnel, are they strong enough?

2002 700 XC SP

Thanks!

On the bracket that's rivited to the tunnel, weld the hole completely shut and re-drill the hole. That way it won't be oblong anymore. The hole in the tunnel will still be oblong, but not the hole in the steel bracket. Then just make sure to locktight and tighten the bolt.

The steel plate riveted on, you can chisel off the old blind rivets, weld the aluminum hole shut or weld a washer on there, and install a new steel plate. I did this to a 99 indy 500, it wasn't too hard.

This would be the repair of choice, but if unable to do it at this time, mounting in the lower holes-in the bracket would get you by.
