Polaris muffler insulation

I'm in the process of getting my brothers 2000 Poo running again after 4 years of sitting in the weeds. I am going to blast the exhaust and repaint it but when I took the auminum wraps off the pipe the insulation in there was caked on the pipe. I scraped it all off but am wondering what should I put there to replace it? I don't really want to buy new OEM insulation, is there any cheap substitute or just skip it?

Check out parts unlimited for snowmobiles and look under exhaust. They're a couple of different type's of wraps and insulation? You can compare pricing and see if it's better priced. Don't know if I would skip it completely. No insulation would probably put off too much heat and rob HP or might (not saying it would, but might) cause somethings to melt....

Thanks for the tip. I got their insulation package fro $29 and it worked perfect. Looks like the original stuff. The parts from Poo would have been over $150.

Good to hear you found a less-costly solution for replacing the insulation.

I wouldn't advise of running the sled w/o the aluminum pipe wrap/shields and insulation, one reason is to help keep heat in the pipe/exhaust on a 2-stroke, or so I have been told.
