Police in Bergland

Going back to Ranlam’s posting. Right. I read this code to be that the law says you can ride the highway as long as it is at the extreme right of the open portion of the right-of-way. The DOT or DNR can close a particular section if they do several things, one of them is holding a public hearing to discuss the proposed prohibition. Has there been a public meeting to discuss the proposed prohibition?

I don’t think the plow argument is valid, it says the OPEN portion of the right of way. I would interpret the snowbank from plowing to not necessarily be considered the OPEN portion, but still part of the right-of-way. You need to contact a local attorney or judge to interpret this, but I would agree, in my opinion legal. Let us know if there are any tickets issued and what statute has been cited as being broken.

Look it up for yourself: http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(0u....aspx?page=getObject&objectName=mcl-324-82119

Any State Hwy is a No go in Mi or Wi. Some just need a Ticket.

NOT true. There are many trails that run along state highways...and why not?...they all have very wide ROW's.

not sure of the situation up there in bugland but i'd bet there are 10 to 1 sleds vs autos navigating the area during high sledder season.

TELL ME THIS ....why the he'll is it that once i sit my *** on a sled i have less rights and have to look out for everyone else and they can call me a scourge in traffic...WTH?....WHY, yes WHY don't we all expect the same respect from other motorists as they expect from US sledders....seriously.....I could be proceeding cautiously on a marked trail across an unplowed driveway after stopping, but if some yahoo in a car/truck comes along and runs me over at 30 MPH it would be my fault....W.T.F?...If you ask me the STOP sign needs to be on the low traffic side of the intersection .

O yer just sturring up the pot now! But your first sentence is true. Without this highway row there would be no trail into White Pine, Silver City, and you wouldnt be able to get up to Lake of the Clouds just to name a few popular spots. Many other areas in the UP like this.

There is alot of car/truck traffic through Bergland. Riding sleds on highway does not make sense when there is a designated trail.

All I was trying to do was keep people safe and avoid getting them a ticket. From now on I'll just sit back with my popcorn and enjoy the show. Go ahead and argue all you want.

If the sleds were operating at the far right of the road, in a single file line and were still ticketed then I wound fight it.

I got a similar ticket many years ago, I went in front of the magistrate with a copy of the DNR book and she read it over and said dismissed. Then she proceeded to give the ticketing officer a lecture about writing bogus tickets.
