Ok I have reached the age where my vision just sucks and am looking for suggestions. My problem is I need to wear reading glasses in able to see the gauges and GPS on my snowmobile. My problem is I dont want to wear glasses under my helmet because they just fog up. I have a heated shield helmet and am looking for suggestions on what to do???

The way I see it, you have two choices...a modular helmet that gets your breath out of the helmet, or contacts. I always had good luck with my glasses in the modular helmet. The key is a good fit of the breath box.

Im there too. I usually just check everything at stops or when i really know Im lost. Wearing the reading glasses on the trail isnt an option as then i cant see past the end of the skis.

They do have multifocal contacts now, but havent tried them.

Same problem. I usually check my GPS only when I have to, such as not sure of direction. I stop, lean over the handlebars and squint. If that doesn't work I put my glasses on.

Sucks getting old.

I have to wear glasses all the time and can't read crap without looking over the tops of them and even then usually squinting. Have tried bifocals, can't seem to see any F...ing thing with them. Got these prescription inserts for my goggles this year, see how they work. Haven't had fogging problems with glasses and goggles, just issue with excess pressure on the bridge of my nose. Don't have GPS, wouldn't be able to see it if I did. Stop and look would be only option, may as well keep with maps.

X2 for brp mod & apply fog zero to glasses & I'm 100% close & far plus photo glasses lens change with sunlight so don't need tinted visor. Glasses work on the trail with mod hat but you do need to get everything just right starting with your core temp. Avoid hot head & you should be aok with glasses.

Don't poo poo this idea.......

They make bi-focal contact and THEY WORK! Get contacts that have zero or limited distance correction and however much near sightedness correct you need.

LASIK. If you can. Had it done 15 years ago. Best thing I ever did. To myself anyway.

I wear contacts to Sled for Distance and keep a set of Cheaters with me to read a map or menu etc..

Gauges never look at them, just gets you in trouble taking your eyes off the trail unless I'm sitting still.

Got a buddy who wears a Skidoo Modular with Glasses, just got to remember to flip up the shield when you stop to prevent fogging.

If you decide to try a helmet and goggle combo, you can have a set of script goggle inserts made for you. http://www.sportrx.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Prescription-Goggle-Inserts-1024x682.jpg

I got a set of these this year, just got back from first ride using them. They worked great. I never had to much fogging issue with goggles and glasses. But i had issues with excess pressure on the bridge of my nose. And sometimes the bow of the glasses would let cold air in around and into my balaclava. These worked good but I wish the lense was a little larger. There may be that option when ordering. I just jumped on snd ordered didn't look for size options

Contacts are the best solution if you can wear them....Got to figure if not using then can't tolerate them.

That is good to hear. My wife started using goggles this past season which helped stop fogging and this year will be trying out the inserts. They look to be bigger than her normal lenses and fit about the same distance from the eyes.

Getting LASIK done next week my self. Been wearing contacts for 20 years now. Never to late to have done. I cannot see anything far way but, over the years now with the contacts I can not see anything close.

I would like to do Lasik, but my brother in law did it
My wife thinks his eyes look weird now, almost like they have lightning bugs in them. So now when I bring it up its not even worth fighting about.
I'm a little on the fence about it too, you don't hear about problems with it, but what if it went crazy when doing my eye. Scary thought.

Lasik if you can. Did both eyes at the same time at age 45 about eight years ago and don't regret it one bit. Couldn't see the alarm clock beforehand.

The doctors will tell you that if you are over 40ish you are eventually still going to need reading glasses. They were right, but definitely worth it if you are eligible. Scary, yes, but a reputable doc will work with you to address those concerns.

Either it is age causing the vision loss, or what our mama's warned us about that would cause us to go blind. Just stopped when we needed glasses.

Those are what I have. 3rd year. Work real good trail riding. Off trail had some fogging when stopped. If used for dirt bike riding they would be perfect.

Had Lasik done in September, BEST thing I've ever done. Only regret I have is not getting it sooner. I used to argue with my contacts daily after riding. I can't wait to get some snow so I can try riding without the dryness at the end of the day this year! And waking up middle of the night and actually being able to see a clock is a miracle in itself ;) good luck to you!
