Poor Eye Site

Same problem. I usually check my GPS only when I have to, such as not sure of direction. I stop, lean over the handlebars and squint. If that doesn't work I put my glasses on.

Sucks getting old.

Yes, getting old does suck, but it is better than the alternative.

Try a good fish oil that gives you at least 1,200 mg. EPA/DHA and Omega 3's. My eye sight improved dramatically since I bump up my dosage.

I would like to do Lasik, but my brother in law did it
My wife thinks his eyes look weird now, almost like they have lightning bugs in them. So now when I bring it up its not even worth fighting about.
I'm a little on the fence about it too, you don't hear about problems with it, but what if it went crazy when doing my eye. Scary thought.

A quick trip to Russia should help...lol...They have been doing Lasik many years before USA...Russia thinking is Lasik cheaper than constant supply of glasses. Of couse they may plant a bug in your ear before they let you go.lol :)

Many I know have had Lasik and all have reported that they love it and it is great to correct their distance vision. The problem with it is that is does not correct the ability to see closely (for us folks getting older) which is the problem Heitz66 is having. Reading glasses are still needed after getting Lasik done once you get to that age when your near vision starts to go. I also need reading glasses and would get Lasik for sure if it helped both close and distance vision. For the Heitz, if you want to avoid wearing reading glasses while riding, you could carry a pair with you and when you need to read your GPS and gauges, stop and put them on quick. Otherwise, the option of wearing a type of contact lens like a multi focal lens like has been mentioned earlier may be an option.

I had my Lasik done 15 years ago. I was horribly nearsighted with just a little dash of astigmatism thrown in. I still don't need cheaters. I am 57 years old now. It worked so well for me that my daughter had it done when she was 20. So far so good there also. The whole process has gotten better. The guy that did my daughters eyes has done over 40000 procedures with no serious incidents. I don't think that is much of an issue to worry about unless you go to some quack from Bangaledesh that has only done 3 eyes. As far as saving money on glasses and contacts there is no question I am way ahead. If you are serious about such a surgery I would go to a respected eye center and ask them about your concerns rather than ask your cousin Billy Bob.

Do you take that every day?
Wife wants me to take that stuff as my eyes have like a film over them all the time, and Doc doesn't know what its from.

Yes everyday. Take Life Extensions fish oil, best on the market at good price. No after taste. Helps with inflamation of joints. Zinc is also good for vision, not bad for the bedroom either ha ha.

Isn't there a Lasik procedure they do that can correct both near and far eyesight? My friend had it done a few years back, think it was called monovision? I have saved money for this and have talked to several clinics that said if you have worn contacts in the last year, they won't do it! I think I've worn my contacts once in the past year. Didn't know fish oil would help with vision, glad to know as my Dobe is taking them for joint reasons (she doesn't have any problems yet, just trying to avoid a big Vet bill in the future)so now she can be a seeing eye dog for me as her vision will be better than mine!

Monovision is where they correct your dominant eye to perfect and your non-dominant eye to slight nearsightedness. The idea is so you can see far distances with your dominant eye and still be able to read with your non-dominant eye without cheaters. That is what I had my eyes corrected to the first time. Looked good on paper. I lived with that for about 3 months and then went back in and had them re-touch my non dominant eye to perfect instead of the nearsighted condition. I was having problems at night with glare. The eyes were fighting each other a little bit and I didn't like that. All good after that. When my daughter had her eyes done they told her no contacts for a month before surgery. All good with her also. For those who worry about faulty surgery the reason they have helped so many folks without incident is that the laser is computer guided and shuts down if you move or your eye tries to move or whatever. It has gotten to be an exact science. Also a lot cheaper in most cases. If you are a good candidate - which they will tell you after an evaluation - I highly recommend it.

The UV from the sun wrecked my eyes so youger peeps wear sunglasses with UV protection.

As far as cheaters I am doing the reverse of some of the rest of you. If I am going to be riding sled daytime hours at high speeds on lakes or firelanes or corridor trails which I like to do, I bought some cheap disposable correction plus two sized soft contact lenses. I can see really good for about 2 miles ahead. Cheater farsightedness. I can't read the speedo but don't care. Works good.

Does that really work? Where did you buy them, order from Canada?

Works great. It is like having a magnifying glass in front of the sled. I just bought them from my local Optometry guy. I dreamed it up it and just bounced it off him and he said here - try these.

Might give it a try. Just pop them out when finished riding or start to bother. Thanks.

Had Lasik done Friday afternoon, Everything is great. Better than 20x20 and can read up close.
Had glasses since 5th grade. WOW I guess I was way to worried about this being done.

Good for you. Use your eye drops as directed. It is normal for your eyes to be dry for awhile after surgery. Do what they tell you to do.
