Pop Ups, Service Outage, etc.

I may get my tail feathers clipped for what I'm about to suggest so if you never hear from me again, know that I am living comfortable on the edge of the snowbelt with my wife, dog, and ample supply of Michelob Ultra.

As I've stated before, as a Moderator, I have no control over the I.T. end of things with the website. Honestly, I don't know who does. Whether it be someone asleep at the switch or simply an empty chair in the control room. Regardless, the Pop Ups and Service Outages continue. Someone should thank all who have remained with us during this time. It's most frustrating to find a Service Outage when you're hoping for Snow Conditions and Riding Reports. Yeah, the Pop Ups, are another part of the equation. I agree, we shouldn't have to adjust our browsers or pay for a Blocker to visit a site, including this one.

The following is the address that has been posted here since the beginning. In the past, if you had a need to contact John Dee for any reason, this was the email address that worked best. To the best of my knowledge it's still active.

So, for those that feel a need to express their concern, I would suggest the following email be used.

Gary, we all know it's not your job to correct IT issues & I certainly don't hold you accountable for it. You do a lot to keep the site together & it is greatly appreciated not to mention the other Mods on the site that contribute to it. I was under the impression that the powers to be were aware of the issues at hand, however, apparently that is not the case. I did send a message to JDs email moments ago, we'll see if there is a response. I certainly didn't think that email address would be monitored for obvious reasons, nonetheless, I hope others will send their sentiments along as well as there is power in numbers. Thank you.

Funny how we forget. When John started UP the site we were living in a world of dial up internet and people were making a killing on AOL stock. Everyday I struggled to go to Pasty Cam and take in todays picture and then head over to John’s link from their website. Imagine we all had dial up .

I don't understand all the pop ups..I don't think john would have liked this at all...I haven't been able to update anything in 3 days...Who is running this site? It's awful now...my only hope with all these pop ups is that johns wife/ family are getting paid..(somebody should be getting paid from all these ads)....again..i don't think john would appreciate it at all. Maybe it's time to either shut it down...or figure out a way for some of us oldtimers that have been here awhile, that actually knew john and rode with him to run this site (maybe update it a bit)..or move the entire platform over to Facebook? Something needs to change here...it's not the site we once knew and loved.

I was on at 10 am yesterday and it went flat for the rest of the day. Frustrating to say the least. I don't believe the Google pop-up ads are benefiting the owner whatsoever. These ads show up in repeated fashion and are randomly placed everywhere. I believe this is the cause for the site unavailability. It has to stop, it is crazy out of hand.

Actually, there is a Facebook page for Snow Central. It hasn't been updated since July of last year. It's mostly a redirect to this site anyway. Not sure if Facebook would work. There's some that are blocked for various reasons, others won't use it for privacey reasons. I have Facebook on my phone but we're blocked from access on our desktop which is a different account.

Attakman, I believe the ads started while John was with us and I remember there being some discussion about it but was surprised I didn't see a comment from John. I kinda assumed John was working on it in the background. Then sadly soon after He we no longer here.

The comments were the same back then.

I appreciate all the comments about other browsers and ad blockers but why do we only have to have them for this discussion board? No other forum I visit needs all this stuff.

Can't disagree with anyone at this point, to have the site down all day and night on a Friday is strange. Its one of the busiest days to get info I would imagine. People will start drifting away if this isn't turned around. Hope it get's fixed, I like the people I have met on this site, I'm an older guy and don't do any other social media except for this site. I would think if IT was reading any of the hundreds of comments they would try to get the site back to what it was.

I would agree. Also I don’t care for the normal social media crap either. I’d bet this family is close enough that we could come together to help this place out if it’s needed or wanted. I hope it doesn’t come to an end but wouldn’t be shocked. I just wish everyone the best and a happy and healthy 2026!
