Popcorn sales from Cub Scouts

what gives? $15 for you pop it, $20 for carmel corn,$30 for chocolate covered carmel corn and $40 for the chocolate covered with nuts carmel corn? Wow! Gave the kid a twenty and got alot of nothing??? I found a $1.98 can of Poppycock cashew in the cuboard, way better. What gives? eating both right now 0g trans fat. empty wallet. I would of been better off just giving them the $20 than "buying" the popcorn. I just want the popcorn account and retire young. How much do the kids get? Oh! and don't those kids have school tommorow? It's 10pm.

I will say that I used to be in the same boat as all of you until now. My son is a first year Scout and now I know it goes toward a great cause and helps them do the things are important like a weekend retret. Also knowing the portion that does go to them is important. The $15 for 15 bags really isn't that bad. Go to a vending machine and that's what you pay. The good thing is that $11 of that goes toward the troop. Hope that helps.

It does, thank you gostman. My kids were in scouts too. One made it to Arrow of light level. Webelos. It just seems alot more expensive 10 yrs. later. Same troop 3118 Lowell, MI. I guess it feels different when your directly involved. Just finishing off the can of Poppycock Cashew. Saving the scout stuff for a special occasion.

I can think of a few times that the kids selling candy was heaven sent and I would have payed allot more.I am not promoting dysfunctional behavior but more a thank you for delivering munchies

Don't forget girl scout cookies to there awesome even though you don't get much and to me the quality out weighs the quanity anytime Also the Scouts both boy and girl build some good kids these days and keeps them busy I say hats off to them kids and good eating to <font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font>

I'm with anyone who supports good causes. The scouts, school functions, band, whatever. The thing that gets me though is the companies who produce the products they are selling such as the cookies, pizza's, popcorn etc. make a ton of money on free child labor. I'd rather see the fund raising based on sponsoring an accomplishment that these kids are working on. That way, if I sponsor them for $20.00, they keep it all. But I do love the cookies!

electraglide, that was the point I was trying to make. The kids are getting pimped by big business. Why not have the kids rake leaves for the money. They get it all plus exercise.

my son is a first year webelo. i agree the prices are high. our troup goal was $30,000. 70% of that stays localy.

One more thing. Parents, Troop leaders, etc..make sure the kids have a sales pitch when they come to the door. I will never buy from anyone young or old that comes to my door and says "hi, do you want to buy some candy." I always say no thanks, but maybe next time you can tell me why your are selling and I may change my mind.

Just the other day, I was in the driveway and I had a 12 yr old or so kid pull up on a bike and say hey, do you wanna buy a ticket. That was it. I gave him a little coaching lesson and sent him on his way. Then the same day, I had a 7 year old cub scout from down the street come and give me a 3 minute sales pitch on what he was selling and what the money is used for and I dropped a $20 for him on the spot.

I/family grows popcorn and it has been really worthwhile for us for 30 plus years. We get paid well for doing this, although our contracts with the company are not much more from year to year. Somewhere someone is gouging/not the farmer. If I had to guess, the company is. I'm not sure, but don't think the scouts popcorn is that expensive in my area.

I do agree it can be expensive but a large portion goes to the troop. I believe 70% stays with the troop. I will say, I love to give but I had a hard time paying $75 for a 5ft Christmas tree. It was amazing how many in my neighborhood were excited to see us selling Scout popcorn. My son did so well he automatically qualified for a free marshmallow blaster that he plans to feed our dog with in the backyard.

Yes the popcorn is a bit pricey, but this is the ONLY fund raiser of the year for the scouts. Please support their cause, great group of individuals!

the hockey team in my area sells watter softener salt delivered to you where ever you want it placed .in my case in the basement oh yeah I buy allot like the whole years worth cost like 1 dollar more per bag worth every cent.I am sure they buy in bulk so they prob make 3 bucks a bag.every one in my area has a softener no choice in the matter.so if any of you have kids in sports think about the salt thing.plus the kids get a work out out of the deal and dads get to use your sled trailers in July for hauling salt
