Looking to ride from the Porkies to Duluth. Can't find Wisconson trail maps anywhere on line. They seem to have them by individual county only. Would like to hear from anyone that has made the ride.

Here are maps for three out of the four Wisconsin counties you need. I don't think Ashland county map is online. I've ridden from around Superior Wi to Ironwood. Depends on what you are looking for on the ride, the fastest way on the WI leg would be to head into Ashland County on Iron County trail 11 and head toward Mellen, then up to the city of Ashland. In Ashland you hit Trail 2 (tri-county corridor) which is a super highway all the way to Superior. If you are looking for something more twisty or scenic, there are better alternatives to the south.

the Tri Co will get you to Superior, but to get to Duluth you would need to take the long way around, Hawthorn, Gandy, over to the Munger, that will get you into West Duluth, the trail does not go thru town, If you were interested in going up the North Shore, then it is better to go around town even further, Carlton, Brookston, Canyon, Island Lake, some of the routes depend if the rivers are frozen.

Thanks

Thanks for your help. I'm hoping for a somewhat scenic route. Leave the Porkies (Whitepine Mi.) in the morning and make it to Minnesota, not neccesarily Diluth, in a day. Spend the night there and return the next day, possibly a different route. We will be in the area for 9 days in January and thought, weather permitting, this might be an awesome ride for 2 of the days in the middle of our trip. This year is my turn to be cruise director. How long did it take to ride from Superior to Ironwood ?

The scenic route (down through Island Lake, over around Clam Lake/Lake Namekagon then north thru Drummond or Barnes up to the Tri-County Corridor -multiple options but Brule is a good option - then to Superior) probably is 170+ miles. Hard to judge time since that depends on speed and the number of stops. If I were you I would reconsider your plan. I would leave the Porkies and loop south and west and then back north and west up into the Bayfield Peninsula. Maybe spend the night in Valhalla, Herbster, or Iron River. I think this way will be better trails and better conditions.

vmax1994, duluth rider & groomerdriver, thank you all for your suggestion's and especially the maps. I believe we have made a plan based on your help. From the porkies heading southwest on trail 2/77/7/2 then north up 63/31 to the bayfield peninsula to the Legendary Waters Resort & Casino to spend the night. In the morning head back south on 13 then west on 2 then northeast on 3 to trail 100 in Mi. back to trail 2 into White Pine. I'll let you know how it turns out cuz it looks great on the map.

I think your route will not work. Trail 2 does not go through the Bad River reservation (you need to look at an Ashland County map which is the one I did not provide). You must go south and take trail 11 west out of the Island Lake area. Also, 13 is often lacking snow since it is close to the lake. If so, just take 31 or one of the many fire road routes back to 2. Going around the reservation will add up the miles so it would be a pretty long haul to get up to Legendary Waters in a day....doable but a haul.

Keep us updated...I have always wanted to make a saddlebag trip like this through this part of Wisconsin but haven't done it. Seems a little trickier to plan then the trips through the UP since the UP is so easy to make miles up if you need to to get to the destination for the day. I find trailing riding in Wisconsin more fun anyway, but the snow cover is always the question...

So I am trying to plan a trip for 6 men btwn 30 & 55. We want to spend time & MONEY in Wisconsin. I cannot find Ashland county trail maps anywhere on line. I cannot find anywhere that puts all the maps together, you know, so you can plot a trip. If it weren't for the wonderful & helpful people on this site I would not know where to begin. Very frustrating. Sooo, if anyone in the Wisconsin travel bureau is reading do you see anything wrong with this picture? Yes I have e-mailed them for help.
