Hello,
Are sleds still riding the Portage canal to the East of the bridge in Houghton past the Super 8 MTU area?

Thank you, Bear

Saw machines crossing from Ramada to the Houghton beach on Sunday. Not much traffic on the lake at my house in Chassell. I think all of the shacks are off the ice now. Still seeing sleds around the head of the bay in L'Anse and Baraga.

Thank you very much JTM_67.
Can you give an update late Thursday or Friday morning on how the warm Thursday affected the trails/canal?

Thank you, Bear

At the moment the canal looks pretty sketchy by the bridge, but can't confirm how it actually is. Honestly, by the bridge doesn't look much different than the southern eight miles of Keweenaw Bay down by Baraga. I drove past there an hour ago and there were people scattered on the ice as far north as Pequaming enjoying the 50 degree day.

The entirety of Portage Lake from Chassell to Ripley looks prime to rip - still looked like a few shacks out there down in Chassell Bay.

Trails visible from road in Baraga and L'Anse are completely bare - do not go near those towns. The stretch of trail 15 on the grade visible from 41 between Baraga and Chassell still looked really nice an hour ago.

Thank you for the update.
Looks like snow in Green Bay Friday, that means the "slurry" will be sprayed all over the roads again Thursday. That leaves nothing to do here but go back up one more time.

From my deck last night looked like some brownish ice which means soft around the edges in Chassell bay but there was still atv's and sleds out fishing. Big Portage still looked pretty good from what I could see.

Bittersweet to say I will be driving up Friday afternoon, 7 hours R/T in the truck, Wife says snowmobiling is done for the year but should be able to ride 10 hours on Saturday if traffic is low.

Hello JTM,
Any chance you saw how the trails held up with yesterday's 50+ weather?
See any groomers out today?

Thank you, Frank

Once you get away from the roads/towns. Trails north of the bridge held up well to the 50 degree temps on Wed. There is a Facebook page for the trails in the Keweenaw. https://www.facebook.com/KeweenawTrailReports/
It is updated just about every day and is very well done. One of the very few worthwhile things on FB if you ask me!
