Power valve broken 06 fusion

So I took the power valves out to clean them and one of them has a piece cracked off. Don't know what happened to the cracked piece - can't find it. Looking through the y pipe I can see a small scuff on the piston below the ring. Obviously I need new valves. Do I need to pull the head and try to find the cracked piece? Do I need to do a top end? Is it possible the cracked off piece worked out the exhaust? I ran the sled into the garage right before and it ran fine. Sled has about 6000 miles since engine was rebuilt. Sled has 9300 miles on it. Was hoping to do one more trip with it. Suppose to leave in 10 days.

pictures? how big is the missing piece? is there damage to the top of the piston? shine a light down the spark plug hole and look at the piston.

I didn't get any pictures, but basically a decent sized chunk - a good part of one of the "wings" if you could call it that.

As an update, I ended up pulling the head off today. Everything looks fine on the dome, in the head and on the inside of the cylinder wall. I ended up finding the chunk too - it was in the can. I'm going to order the new parts tomorrow - probably just buy two new valves, even though they're a bit pricey, and the gaskets to reinstall the head.

Can you reuse the washers on the head bolts or do those need to be replaced? Polaris wants almost $3 each for those. I know they seal the head on.

You're supposed to replace those washers every time but I never have and never had any issues. I know of the wings you're talking about. Every polaris with higher mileage starts wearing through these to the point they are about to crack off, obviously like what happened to you...

Good to know they break with high miles - I'll replace the other side while I'm at it.
