Probably a break even affair DNR vs Club with dues trail permit purchase. I need to find out how my flatland buds get a trail permit for $50?.....do they need to join a club + dues?.... if so they need to plan way ahead of winter trip.

You break even at one sled. Every other sled you, your wife or children under 19 own qualify for the discounted pass as well.
Out of staters can register their sled in WI, join an AWSC affiliated WI club and get the trail pass discount.

Dues avg. about $25.00 for most clubs. $10.00 of that goes to the AWSC.

Even though I have always been an active club member....I am split as to whether I want to tell ppl to join a club or not.

If you do join just for the discount and nothing more, I guess you and your money would actually do more good for WI trails by paying the full price and having ALL of that money for registration and non-discounted trail pass go directly into the snowmobile segregated fund.

If you have more than one sled you make out joining a club . Believe me I think any one who rides WI. trails should be a WI.club member even if you don't work on the trials .Use them SUPORT them. More members more direct $$$ for the clubs to use as needed not having to wait for the state to pay the club back at the end of season.

If registered in IL or IN I don't see them paying WI tax to register in WI. What process is available for same day WI trail permit purchase for out of state riders?

You don't need to pay WI sales tax if you already have paid in your home state.

Out of state WI trail passes will be gotten same as in the past but cost is going to be $50.00.

Still can buy out of state WI trail passes at gas stations in Vilas same day without being registered in WI?

FROM WSN MAGAZINE;
"The non-resident trail pass will increase from $35.00 per year to $50.00 per year.
This annual trail pass is required for any sled not registered in WI. They will be available from the DNR as in the past."

Yeah I don't see that working still need local access purchasing capability for non-resident trail pass same as MI.

My sleds are all in my name and I am a club member. But what if by chance you have a wife who has a sled in her name? On my AWSC card it only has my name on it and not the family's? How would your wife get a discount or does she need to get her "own" club membership??

Where do your buds get their non resident passes right now?

No need to answer because that is where they will be able to get them in the future...is that too complicated?

If you have a family membership it should list your wife. Most clubs charge about $5 more for the family membership. Talk to your club membership chair for more details on individual vs. family membership dues.

WI Gas stations will continue to sell non resident WI trail permits? Not what I heard but don't know & why I'm asking. Doesn't seem correct resident must buy thru DNR or Club but non resident can buy permit same day over the counter from vendor? Seems to me Clubs could have same day turnaround for non residents with option to join club. Would be nice to see this posted somewhere so it is clear.

Thanks for the info......won't be any vendors for non resident permit DNR only source ....flatlanders won't like that. All will be aok for residents as long as clubs have their stuff together & still option to buy from DNR if you don't get the warm fuzzies from clubs but best way to go for multiple sleds. Capstep law now so we have to deal with it & hope for the best.:)

Not sure if the DNR is the only source for the $50 non-resident trail pass? I understood that they would be available just like they were in the past (DNR and vendors). I will verify this at the upcoming AWSC Convention this weekend.

Yes would be good to know if trail permit vendors are gone. So many riders buy permits for same hour trail riding would not be good to lose those local vendors. If on a trip & riders find out they can't buy permit locally they are going to ride without until they can figure out the legal way to buy one. Not a good idea but it will happen if non-residents get caught off guard & can't buy a permit locally. I was watching a DNR program on TV & this Maine warden was chasing riders all over trail system to check registration & this group kept avoiding him. Turns out they rode from NH but were not registered in Maine & I'm thinking why not trail permits each state registration would be a major PITA .....guess there is no one way of getting necessary trail revenue. They all got tickets recorded on TV .lol
