Propane Time

Time to lock in propane prices for the season. Just got my statement and I can lock in at $2.54 per gallon for 500 contracted gallons. When I called my provider and threatened to jump ship they dropped my $50.00 lock in fee and dropped the price to $2.47. I still think this is high and I am hearing some better deals as I call and shop. I have a friend that burns thru a ton of propane. With this volume they give him a commercial rate discount and he was paying at one time $1.88 per gallon! What is everyone hearing for numbers, let's share!!!!

Changed providers after 10 years. Tired of getting hosed. First fill at $1.89 all fills after $ 1.99 a gallon. In The Higgins Lake area of MI

Ferrillgas in Howell Mi wants me to "lock in" @ 2.49. I dont think so....... These propane companies sure do play games dont they. Love my woodburners!

Been cutting, splitting & stacking wood for the last 2 days & won't buy propane until Nov or Dec. Hope it goes down as a by product of gasoline. Please keep posting those prices for comparison.:)

If you are going to buy now is the time. There is a reason that companies want you locked in by Sept 1 cause they know the price starts to climb after that. I told my old company I was looking to leave & they offered me my first fill at 50 cents off. But that still left me at a whopping 2.29 per gallon. Any body needs a wood burner I have one for sale. Chimney and all. See classifieds

I don't lock in & buy once aseason for 1000 gallon tank. I don't threaten to leave any of my venders cell phone, TV or propane. I work things out for win /win & move on.

Down to $2.34 locked in waived the enrollment fee keep full program. Checked with the local co-op. They have a ton of members and locked in $2.19 and they shop with their buying power in my area. $2.34 will have to do and I only use 488 gallons per season and I keep the crib at 45 degrees all winter. One year if you did not have a contract the locals were gouged at $4.55 per gallon, Yikes!

I dont threaten either. I called to tell them I was leaving and they offered the lower price. I tend to stay loyal but when you are talking about 2.79 vs 1.89 loyalty goes out the window. Last year I stayed and took it in the shorts by 30 cents a gallon. Not filthy rich enough to do that 2 years in a row. Hey snow monkey I am going with Ferrelgas this year but Holtons out of Lake City was right there at 1.99 per gallon. Both are 600 gallon minimum use. I just get by that with 650-700 per year.

Yes, they would not go that low for me because I use less than you. They did waive the lock in fee and gave me a better price. I just thought it was good to post this thread, I hate to see people getting ripped off. A few years ago they hosed my 85 year old neighbor. I made a call for her and got her a much better deal. She gave me free brownies in return and sold all my crap at our annual garage sale!!!! This will also help our fellow snow dogs get a better deal!!!

Don't know if it makes a difference to some of you, but because I OWN my tank, I get a better rate because you are not locked in to the company that owns it, and can shop around for a better rate.

At least that's what the driver told me yesterday.

xcr440, that's exactly correct. Not that it happens very often, but if you were to lose a full tank cause the regulator went bad, you would never make up that loss. I had it happen on a suppliers tank. Filled today and gone in the morning. Their loss, not mine. If it was my tank, my loss.

Never crossed my mind but a neighbor lost propane the same way. At first he thought someone had stolen the fuel!
