Yeah thought of that but coming back to WI firearm laws & birdshot mess up inside of 22 rifle barrel. Leaning towards .177 pump with scope. I really like my 22 marlin bolt...my target pattern is on on top of the other & I want to treat it right... a lot more accurate than my buds 22 ruger semi automatic. Pretty sure I want .177 rifle now but lots to sort thru.

\ but IF a 22 short Is going SLOWER than a pellet guns pellet, , the odds of hitting something PAST the intended target, will be more for the what ever bullet /pellet is going faster, not just what is driving the projectile
after many yrs of having a gun shop, I have heard countless stories of guys buying pellet guns, due to NOT WANTING TO???
thinking they will not carry as far, only to be buying neighbors new windows or getting fines.
as air guns honestly in MY area have more restrictions on WHERE you can use them than actual rifles do!
which again, is also why I sold a ton of paint gun rifles and such, very accurate in the better models and iF a miss happens, tons less liability worries!

Geese get the message go somewhere else. Muskrat got in my pontoon few years ago chewed up cheapo pfd took a trailer ride home & met Mr 22 in my driveway.lol My neighbor not so lucky last summer muskrat chewed thru his pontoon outboard gas line but told him they were nesting on his shoreline not sure what he did about it but don't see them this Spring.

and many have had issue's with geese and??
and what they used to do, is take some corn(feed corn) and soak in in Vodka a while
the put it out, I am TOLD< it only takes a few kernels to get small critters drunk
and then he said, he would walk up to them and???
as they wouldn;t fly or run from him!
and that would solve his troubles
he was fond of golf clubs he told me??
a waste of Vodka maybe?? but??

Too up close & personal for me & I don't golf..lol.. Farmer use to that kind of stuff does it all the time with his stock. Me I want pests to leave not belly up to the bar..lol... At my age killing animals is in the past don't want to do it anymore if I can avoid it. I kill for meat same for fishing otherwise leave critters & fish alone. I'm not sure if others feel the same way with age but time changed me for sure.

Sounds like a cheap multi-pump is what you need to send a message.
Good idea but paint ball not going to work would get all over trees, shoreline rocks, pier,boat lift & boats & that would draw the attention of the tree huggers. One guy hired an artist to do a couple of tree wraps and he received endless phone calls. He asked me what I thought told him not my thing but your trees do what you want. lol.

For a 100-150' varmit skeedaddler I'd recommend a 177 from wallymert that also shoots them bbs ... For anything more theres some 177 brownings internet listed that are accurate with nice n quiet release...
ps if you can't plink em with the cheapo yer best to sling mini marshmellows at em with a wrist rocket...

Still not sure what the target is but I would think some of the originally listed FPS would go right through a flying rat. The break barrels are still pretty loud and someone mentioned the Gamo whisper which is a little quieter. A multi pump might be the answer 3 pumps for this varmint 6 pumps for that one etc. If noise is a beneficial deterrent you may wish to consider a fully automatic BB gun. Get 20 or 30 BBs whizzing hitting and stinging plus the sound of the rapid fire might be a real deterrent. They make some pretty high quality ones. Also I have not looked into but they have made great advances in the Air Soft market but I do not know if Air Soft is very accurate or carries a wallop.
Do you know anyone with a Austrailan Sheperd or Healer? There are also services that take care of them. One is called the Geese police. Air ports use Aussies to chase them off. The birds don't come back after being chased a few times. You can also buy fully automatic Russian made BB guns at most gun shows in Indiana. ( so I've been told) I have a single shot break barrel .175 ,that is silent. I also have a six shot co2 .175 that is a lot of fun,though it does make a bit of a pop when you shoot it fast.

please keep in mind, BB's will ricochet a LOT more often than NOT, there way more dangerous than a pellet on hitting NON targeted items

Yeah when he was talking "water rats" I thought it was seagulls, but Geese, you are so F'd. You can't shoot them - forget it, you WILL get in trouble. I have geese at my lake place too, but I don't have a dock and all that, so don't care. This is what you deal with living in northern WI on a lake, and expecting it to be like a condo on Lake Geneva. Just live with it until they leave for Canada.
Geese and gulls I think are protected. Also, harassing migratory water fowl big no no. I would think any break barrel with those FPS would put down almost anything feathered (and a lot of things with fur). Firecrakers (not sure if harassing), audio recording of shotgun blast every 9 minutes, good old dog is probably the best bet. The problem is some birds do not migrate and make themselves at home.

All has been quiet for a week now I found pond they were nesting & left that too. Didn't want them setting up shop here prolly went north where they belong this time of year. Beach rats just don't know yet...last summer was 1st time for that 2 week mess then they left too. Must be a food source that comes & goes.
