Enough complaining about the snow melting and the snowmobiling season being over.Found a way to still get the outdoor adrenaline fix

These pictures are from Saturday, April 9th on the Peshtigo River

Great way to spend a day with my soon to be 18 year old daughter

If you think this was fun, the river is now about a foot higher this weekend

Wetsuits, helmets, and neoprene booties are all included in the package. The Kosir website has all the info on what you need to wear in addition. No matter, you hit that 36 degree water, it is an eye opener.

Yes, definitely bring a change of clothes. Lucky for me, my sister has a cottage 20 minutes away, so makes for a nice trip and convenient place for an overnight stay also.

The 2 fer special is only good on opening day. No matter, the trip is still worth the $45 even for only one trip. Pretty cool (no pun intended) to be whitewater rafting along with ice chunks floating past you. There were areas where the ice shelves along the edge of the river were 2 feet thick that day.

Trip takes about 2.5 hours total. They bus you from the rental place to the put-in point, do a safety orientation talk (they do take safety very seriously), about an hour and a half to two to 2 hours on the river, and the take out point is about 100 yards from the rental place where you park.

There is a guy (Ray Booth) who takes the photos and videos on the river, and by the time you are finished with the trip, he has the video playing on the TV screens in the bar at the take out point, and pictures are up on his computer for viewing. You can walk away with a DVD with photos right away.

Is it all fairly fast moving or are there some flat, wide spots in the river that you have to paddle? Looks like a total blast. Anyone up for a day trip next Saturday?

The first third of the trip is fairly flat and smooth. A bunch of smaller rapids, and having to work your way through the rocks, and it is really good for learning how to control your raft. The next third of the trip is pretty much a continuous stretch of fast water, with one rapids after another. There are six major rapids with short easier sections in between, and they are Class III, to Class IV rapids at higher levels. The last third is again smoother water with some small rapids.

At the highest river levels, they run up to 8 to 12 man rafts, and those can get dumped also, so yeah, it is a total blast.
