Did you see the red wings NHL team play the Hawks AHL team last night and only win by one? It is going to be a LONG season for you guys.

Only Hawk starters where Bolland, Brower, Kopecky, and Campbell. No Kane, Towes, Hossa, Sharp, Hjarlmarson, Keith, Seabrook, or Turco. (top 5 scorers, top 3 defensemen and starting goalie)

Red Wings play,Lindstrom, Datsuck, Cleary, Maltby, Zetterberg, Kronwal, Modano, and holmstrom.

AND STILL ONLY WON BY 1 GOAL!!!

I didn't realize they awarded bonus points for winning by more than one goal.

By no means am I predicting the Wings will win the Cup, or even make the playoffs, for that matter -- but it seems that predicting an 80+ game season based on a meaningless preseason game (and only the 2nd one of the season, for the Wings) is a bit premature......

Well I will stick my neck out and say the Red Wings will win the cup this year. The only reason for lack luster scoring is they take is easy so not to get hurt. And the oposit for the Hawks. They had guys playing to make the team. We already had Fronzen get hurt and there is no point risking any more.

@squat: birds? A blackhawk is not a "bird". Even though "hawk" is in the name, it is, in actuallity, an Indian tribe. Feel free to take a look at the front of the sweater for further explaination. I just love "newbie" hockey fans.
@russholio: Nothing could have ruined that night! It was an amazing sight to see. Very well done, very classy. As for the action on the ice, missing their best puck handling/power play defenseman (whose replacement directly led to the game winner), and their #2 center (also a vital part of the power play) I will take an early season loss by one against a team who some have anointed as the preseason favorites.
It was nice to see the nursing home allowed the Wings to stay out that late with the game being a 8:00 start. At least it was a late enough start that they where able to make the earlybird special at the hometown buffet.

Injuries are a part of the game. Remember what happened to the Wings last year, when they had a plethora of injuries and were using a lineup comprised heavily of minor leaguers? Not one soul outside of Detroit felt sorry for them. It happens, life goes on.

Agreed on the early season loss not meaning much. But this differs from a meaningless preseason game how?

Too old, too slow, blah blah blah.....same old song and dance. Yet through it all, I'd say 4 Cups in 12 years ain't too bad for a bunch of undersized slow old geezers....especially when compared to a team that hadn't won in 59 years, which significantly surpasses even the Wings' 42 year drought.

Definitely not a Hawks fan, but I'm still glad they took the Cup home rather than a California team....and they deserve it!

Black Hawk or Black Sparrow Hawk (Sauk Makataimeshekiakiak (Mahkate:wi-meši-ke:hke:hkwa), "be a large black hawk"

Sounds like they named them after an indian named after a bird! WWAIT! Did I say Bird?

"newbie" hockey fans? You sure about that? Hope your older than 47. That would be the only way you could call me a newbie! I can remember listining to the radio on draft day when the Wings drafted Yzerman. I was a fan for 10 years before that!
