Question for club members

One word... Communication

That is what causes most problems in the world, actually the lack there of. The worst thing that I can think you could do is to leave the renter of the land out of the communication loop. I would go to the owner and communicate with him about the use of his land for the trail. Explain to him that the renter has planted winter wheat on the land used by the club and does not want sleds going across it. Let the landowner make a decision for or against, or perhaps a different route that would not cause damage. Then be sure that the renter knows about that decision from the landowner by informing the renter. If the renter has issues with the decision, he can take it up with the owner and any changes the owner makes would have to be conveyed to the club via the owner.

Keep all lines of communication open, that will insure the best chance of finding a workable solution for all involved.

I agree with John wholeheartly, as a landowner and club member for it seems forever keep both parties informed.

Okay so i am going to change topics here but it is still club related. Does anyone have experience building a snowmobile trail bridge to support a groomer? This trail re-route we are looking at involves a creek crossing. It's in a marshy area and it's on state land (Allenton Marsh for those of you that know the area). We have our inquiry into the DNR but have not heard anything back yet.

Our club is in the proccess of building a 53ft x12ft over the milwaukee river here, we needed to go thru the DNR for premits and everything else, it does take some time with everything. The metal work is done in the shop and railings. Work day next week to paint and work on the wood decking, club members have been working for a few weeks already. This is a non funded trail so we are doing all the work. We have done about three on funded trails in the past five years. Hopefully we can help you out with some info.
