I have a " Bucket Lister " Friend for a decade & more... we are taking up snowmobiling, I rented him a 2015 Doo Gade ACE 900 4 stroker...
What do you thing of renting a 1st time rider a 4 stroker ?

We are riding 2's... or 2 smokers ( E-tec & C-tec )....

I'm a little concerned that the " engine braking " may be a little awkward ?

Have to adjust for stand up with 4s engine braking otherwise sit down aok & engine braking is useful in & out of corners probably a good choice unless he is a hp junkie then he would be better with 600 etec. Ace no oil gas & go with excellent mpg to me would be a good rental sled for a new sledder..

Nice rental sled! Can't speak to the engine braking on a Doo 900 but I'd let him ride it and get used to the sled. Then have him jump on your 2S' and try them. Forewarn him though that he might need to use the brake more often.

Like any other newbie.....be careful and don't ride above your abilities.

If he has never ridden before he wouldn't know the difference. Just take it easy to start with and let him get used to it. If you switch sleds make him aware that the two smoker is a little different. Just go slow to begin with. Learning process.

If he's ever driven an ATV the engine braking is going to be very similar. Otherwise as stated above, take it slow for starters until he gets comfortable.

Exactly what I was going to say. After riding two strokes since 1977, the first time I rode an ACE 600 I said to myself this is like riding a Polaris Sportsman 500. I haven't rode the 900 yet but will someday. I had the chance to buy one this year but bought another 600 renegade. The dealer said demand and resale will be better on the 600.

Keep it in standard mode, engine braking is reduced and throttle is not as responsive. Sport is snappier on the bottom and has full engine braking.

"No engine breaking …" And that's a good thing! Engine braking is much better than engine breaking!

Thanks Guy's... I havent been on here much, last few years I have only rode a hand full of times each season. Even with that 12 800 Procross I had, sold it last spring took a beating, Bought 2 fresh ones...

Hey I was going to buy back my XRS from my budd and decided against it.

I have an extra trail sticker if anyone is in need .... I don't want anything for it only in exchange I would suggest that the interested party make a small donation ( $20-$25-$30 ??? ) to the Make a Wish Sled II or any other charitable foundation. ( Wounder Warrior ect... ) That would be a win /win. I'm headed north Tues... can have my wife mail it to any or the 1st interested party /member.

Please don't take this wrong, because I don't know you but I've seen this to many times with new riders going with friends, please don't expect him to be able to ride like a pro and keep up. I've seen groups put newbies in the back and expect them to keep up and crash because they tried to keep up. Sorry about the rant but I just watched it this week group with guy leading, girlfriend new to the sport in back so he can go balls out crashes that is a a**hole that should not be aloud to ride. So now to the question if he has any skills and you teach him right the 900 will be a great sled plenty of low end but not over the top on top end just teach him right. And sorry about the rant just can't stand people that don't care about there friends and will put them in harms way!!!

I have actually seen the good & bad of snowmobiling , fully aware of the machine and have always taught my kids to have respect for it !

If he's never ridden before, he'll have nothing to really compare it to. He'll be fine, just take it easy

Simply flip the 900 in Eco mode and let him start there. In Eco, you can mash the throttle and it gently accelerates to a top speed of 45.

Not a better sled to start a newbie on.
