Question on grooming

The room tax can be either way--the business does not have to charge the customer-either way is acceptable. And the receiving end doesn't care as long as its paid. LOL

In Wisconsin (Door County), I had to report quarterly to the tourism bureau total amount of receipts, then room tax due was based on % of receipts, there was no option on payment.

It works the same way here. I guess there are different ways to view the whole situation, but they are required by law to pay that room tax to the CVB. Out of that 3%, about 10% goes to the Trails Service to maintain Snowmobile and help the Keweenaw ATV club with the ATV trails. The rest stays with the CVB for their use, mainly advertising/marketing.

No body likes paying additional taxes, but as long as a very high percentage is going towards programs and not salaries, it is a win win for everybody.

When I groomed trails for our club in NW Wisconsin. It was a volunteer. But we did keep track of hours grooming and maintaining the trails. Signing and brushing etc. If the Snow Club went on a trip then the club helped pay for the room only. At 5 bucks an hour. So if I had 20 hours in. It payed for my 100 dollar room.

If you pay groomer drivers or anyone for anything, you also must pay state and federal withholding tax,as well as FICA (soc.security) and unemployment compensation tax.

Then the club I used to belong to who paid their drivers to groom...doesn't pay anymore.

If there is a club out there paying their operators, it is news to me. It must not really be public knowledge. I don't claim to know everything that happens in the county, but I do my best to stay on top of things.
