Question on lodging

It's a naturally occurring bacteria found in fresh water and soil. It grows in big water supplies that aren't maintained properly, which is why outbreaks happen in hotels and apartment buildings with big holding tanks. Best to stay locked in your house if you're worried about it. Better trails for the rest of us!

But...……..this type of outbreak doesn't normally happen if you properly maintain your water supply. And that was the issue there. When this occurred, we stayed there a little bit before and noted how run down it felt. I stay at a lot of hotels due to work, and can usually get a feel pretty quickly if a place in maintained well. Between bed bugs and others things of this nature, I no longer will stay at crappy hotels. Just not worth it IMHO. I am more apt to stay overnight in my snowmobile trailer.

I've stayed there numerous times over the years and for the price, you would be hard pressed to find better in the UP!

I would never think twice about recommending you stay at the Great Northern in Mercer. We have stayed there numerous times over the years and have always enjoyed the place but it has been a few years now since we've been there last. Back when the place opened our group was the first ones to stay in the rooms that we had that weekend. Back then the great room was full of animal mounts but it has been long enough since I've been there last that I'm not sure that they are still there.
