Questions for RV owners

I recently bought an old class A motor home and have been going through the thing seeing what works and what doesn't work. The fridge doesn't seem to run but it is trying to. When I set it to gas I hear it light so I go out and open up the exterior panel and look in the unit where I see the flame running. I am not sure if there is a set of burners like a stove, I suspect not but none the less there is a flame running and it's automatic. At some point I was expecting to hear a compressor turn on but no go. Any suggestions? There is a gauge in the exterior fridge compartment and it looks to measure,,,,, water in LP?

So far both roof air work, furnace works, microwave works, stove and oven work. I have not tried the water systems yet but plan to soon.

There are 2 large knobs behind the kitchen sing and on knob says "Nutone food center" any idea what they do, one know also pushed in and on but is broken.

well I learned that the fridge does not have a compressor and is a simple system. You need heat in the form of AC or LP which are both working on my fridge. I also learned that you need to run it for at least 2 hrs before you will feel anything cold starting which I did not do so today I will let it run and see.

Ran the fridge for 5 hrs today and she was cold, seems to be working properly.

That looks nice Lenny! What are your plans with it? Any trips planned?

think he is going to park it in the lot of the bunk house and rent it as the honeymoon suite.
looks like a much more plush ride out west this winter I would deff pay the extra cash for a couch and tv

Lenny, the fridge should be a dual operating unit, AC or LP. On my travel trailer, when traveling any long distance I would run the LP side of it to keep everything cold while in route. Once at the camp site, plug in the camper & switch the fridge over to AC, this will save of the LP consumption. Nice pick by the way, enjoy.-Mezz

A small electric heater will keep you warm at night, also. No need to run the LP furnace. We have camped on Halloween and not used the furnace, the electric heater did just fine. We have had our camper 8 years now and have only filled an LP tank once. If you are paying for electricity at the site, you may as well use it.

As mezz said, the fridge should have an Auto setting. Put on auto, turn the propane off and plug it in. It will automatically switch to ac to keep cold. My fridge usually takes at least 5-6 hours to fully cool.

The Nutone Center probalbly doesn't work but, there should be something on the counter that allows you to but things like a blender on it. More of a novelty thing at the time but most people never used them. My kitchen had one but, when I remodelled it, I got rid of it as we never used it.

Be careful Lenny, that bad boy looks like it wants to do a permanent wheel stand, probably should have had a second rear axle installed.

part of that is the yard sloping down. I moved the RV to the back to hook up the water and it sits like it should. Out is the street it sits perfect. I believe the water pump is shot but I am going to take it apart and check it out, maybe something is causing it to not prime. I have researched this water system and am certain I am going about it the right way. I have water going into the pump but nothing coming out and it's noisy.

Does your water system have different valves to open and close for winterizing the unit. Maybe something isn't back the way it needs to be for summer use. Mine has 4 different valves that need to be one way or the other, depending on if you are using it or winterizing it.

those roof units could very well have electric heating elements in them. the one we put in the trailer has heat

Mine don't have heat but I do have an additional heater that runs off the water from the motor like a van with rear heat. I was hoping to check out the water pump but no spare time, had to work late. The water system does work if I connect a garden hose but the pump will not pull water from the fresh water holding tank. I checked the line from the tank to the pump and it less than 2 ft long and just one valve and it's open. I have the water hookup valve closed as it is supposed to be. It's gotta be the pump but I have been known to be wrong, rare but it has happened,,,lol.

The pumps are generally noisy & perhaps your might be shot, however, it almost sounds like the pump isn't able to prime because it's sucking air somewhere in the line. There are low point drains in the water lines, both hot & cold, have you checked to see if they are capped tightly? Are the valves to the water heater open all the way? Just some thoughts.-Mezz

like I said Mezz, there is 2 ft of line out of the water tank and one valve and one valve before the pump, if I have water to the pump unrestricted should it not pump water?

Yes it should, though usually, the valve between the holding tank & the pump is a bypass valve which allows you to draw water from the tank or, turns off the flow from the tank & allows you to draw RV antifreeze to push through the water system when winterizing. I guess I am stumped, perhaps the pump is shot. Sorry for the confusion.-Mezz
