by nearly every magazine from 2008 -2011...and the last time I checked...they are not light sleds.[/QUOTE]

I duno bud, the XP chassis with 800 power tek and 600 Etec came out in 08, those i think were pretty unmatched trail wise in 08. That was basically ski-doo's peak when everyone that didnt have one, had to have one. Seems like the other manufactures are catching back up as far as market share. Not even sure if doo is still #1. But cats basically set the bar for handling in the late 90's early 2000's and have always handled well.

Either way it looks like its starting to turn wintery up in the northwoods, cant wait for december when we will all be able to hit the trails and not staring at this damn screen haha. Hope you enjoy your new ride this winter

Seems you are all about light sleds from your posts regarding weight which is aok but the not endall for everyone regarding trail sleds. To me like attak man says all about your preference, set up & what you want the sled to do do for you.Think about it if weight was the only concern Poo,doo & yam should shut their doors nothing else matters. But that is not the case at all ...for me I must have a sled that can a hold a straight line thru the trash & Yamaha does that very well for me at high speeds. Also on lake blasts ever been blown off course on a light sled I know I have & rattles my nerves don't like that at all. So if in very tight twistys everyday dawn to dusk get a doo best sled for that but in UP trails weight just not an issue give the other brands a little credit heavy or not so heavy all good sleds too.:)

haha yea I am little loyal, cut me some slack haha. Going from triples in the 90's to twins nowadays i appreciate the weight difference all the way around. But I def think currently every manufacutrer is bringing the best products they have ever brought to the snow which should be positive for the future growth of the sport. To be the man ya gota beat the man

Totally different ballgame in sled handling from 90s triple triples to twins to current brands today & I made the same transitions. I have had all the brands more doos than any other but Yamahas last much longer so staying with them for now for best trail crusier sled for me & big miles. Don't equate 90s triple triple weight to todays 4s just not the same at all. Do yourself a favor & test drive a Viper suppose to be tad over 500 lbs pushing 139 4s ponies weight objection gone. Not so sure who the market leader is for 2014?.... Many new Vipers sold & lots of pent up demand.

ok first off i don't work for a sled manufacturer or any dealers for that matter,
Last night i finally did it, i have a large digital scale that i drove my brand new totally stock 2013 yamaha nytro xtx 1.75 with one gallon o fuel in the tank up onto....
and the digital readout said..........................
595.00 pounds
there you have it no b.s.
any one else ever weigh their sled ?
the scale is accurate it's been calibrated by a professional ( not me )

my reading comp sux...thought you weighed a Viper RTX 1.75....LOL

You won't notice the weight on the trail. With the eps and new skis its gonna ride like a much lighter machine. Went on a bunch if the long test rides Yami had when eps first came out and a couple buds have the eps yamis. Awesome machines!! You'll love it.
Coming from cats, the one thing that's gonna freak u out is they dont break. You're an ex cat mechanic? You'll be bored as far as working on your sled between rides now!!
I'm not brand loyal, have owned and ridden them all and my entry level cheap 08 Phazer never missed a beat the two years and 7200 miles I owned it. You'll have a great winter!

Ya i understand yama's of today are no comparison to a 90's triple for ride and handling.my point was weight and is why i appreciate weight reduction and seen the insane results on the trail thru the years. Skidoo has bet big on weight reduction and i think its payd off.I would love to drive a yamaha 4 to see the comparison to what I ride and to compare to a doo 1200, as I have riden those and think they are pretty smooth and are def nice trail sleds especially for 2 riders or heavier people they seem to be a better fit than an etec. at least for people in our group.
I'm not knocking heavy sled, but In my opinion I love the weight shaving. Have never felt unstable on lakes inaccess of 110mph and the cornering and moguls r no secret. Each have there pros and cons hopefully someome I kno gets a yama 4 would def like to experience one 1st hand. Let it snow
