I have been told that ac primary clutches can not be rebuilt.
If this is not true where can you get bushings and other parts, as well as the device for breaking down the clutch.

Thanks

mgsimon, I have done the basic rebuilding on my clutches. You can get any parts you might need to rebuild them at an Arctic Cat dealer or go to www.hiperf.com and you will save yourself some money there. Order from them online or order one of their catalogs and go from there .

Like Catman said hiperf is a good source for parts. However its harder to get parts for the new clutches. I also have gotten some of my clutch tools from hiperf. I made my own clutch holding fixture for disassembly, but highly recommend a proper spider jam-nut socket and spider tool if you are taking the complete clutch apart. Also, heat is your friend when taking the spider off.

Hiperf has some parts for older AC clutches that are no longer available from AC. Early 2000s vintage. Bushings and pins and stuff like that. I have a friend who rents out new Pols and Arctics in West Yellowstone. It is his opinion that newer AC clutches are junk and not worth rebuilding. He just throws an entirely new complete clutch on when problems arise. Also the spider taker-aparter-tool is not cheap.

Depends on which Cat clutch your working on, parts for the old 9 tower Cat clutch are limited but parts for current 6 tower are available from Cat and aftermarket sources.

Fett Bros. has all the bushings, pins, rollers you will need to rebuild your clutch. Tools can be found there also.

I don't recall ever seeing a primary that was not rebuildable... judging from what my memory can recall from WAY back ( 90's ) you should have a 6 tower in a 2005 or 6.

Vintage Update... My memory is spotty at BEST... way back for me would be the early 70 sleds... I mean like Comet Duster Days.... I still remember buying a replacement for my old PUMA.... towards the late 70's they were a whopping $100 + dollars. The days of cleats, cat claws, and NO suspension.

and if the primary is toast in that saber I guarantee the secondary is 2x worse . the primary in the saber is good for around 7k trail mi with basic maintenance.

The 06 Sabercat came with a 6 tower clutch. That clutch can be rebuilt. Rebuild is way cheaper than buying new.

Cat does not sell any of the spider parts, ie. rollers, buttons and shims, as individual parts but they are available as an aftermarket part.

We sell the spider rebuild kit for $69.95 and a cam arm rebuild kit for $31.14.

Tell your friend I'll buy every newer 6 tower clutch he throws away as long as the cover, movable face and the fixed face are in good shape.

If the spider is ok then you could rebuild the clutch. Most times what happens is the weights wear a groove in the spider and then it is cheeper and easier to get a new one. Also look at the inside of the clutch (motor side ) down by the crank to see cracks, it is very thin and the cat clutches like to crack there.

A complete spider assembly is $211.00 the uncalibrated clutch is $427.00. We charge about $30.00 to install a new spider.

I do agree, always look for cracks, if you find any pitch it and get a new one.
