Recoil problem

Yesterday my friend was starting my sled and the rope snapped. I found that the rope frayed and broke because it was making a sharp groove in the console that the cord goes through. Today my other buddy (indy 500) came over and grinded the groove down and now its not as sharp, but the rope still rubs on it pretty bad and i think it's going to break again.

So my question is what could i put around the hole to make the rope slide through easier and not wear away at the console hole?

thanks

Depending on how much room you have, you can use two locking collars (like they put on the axal bearings) and a couple in. of some kind of pipe. What you do is put a collar on each side of the plastic console with the pipe connecting the two. You can buy small ones that will make it look good. Iv done this on different sleds that if the rope is pulled from the side and burns a cuts in it. Just use an idea like this to make it work like new, dont make it look like a redneck job.

I always was a believer in " greasing " the recoil rope. It makes it last longer. Some may call me a fool but I can tell you that I haven't dinked with a recoil rope since my 71 Puma or my chain saw in the early 90's.

Stop at a auto parts store and pick up a rubber grommet
to fit the hole and change the way you pull the rope.
