Looking for some ideas on where to go 4 wheeling in Central to Northern Wisc. Have gone snowmobiling countless times in the bayfield sawyer area, but are looking to take 4 wheelers up this summer. Would be couples, so moderate riding, with plenty of places to stop and wash the dirt down. With hotels or cabins close to trails, all the things I look for in snowmboling.

thanks for any suggestions ideas on trails, lodging, etc!

Thanks for the suggestions! The one couple we are going with went to Black river falls a couple of weeks ago. They said it was very sandy and hard for the girls to turn the ATV, Get around, etc.
What are the trails outside of Hayward like? Gravel, Dirt, sand? All of the above? Since we are only going up for a long weekend, we are trying to avoid doing the 7.5 hr trip to Iron River. Is the Tuscobia Trail good for 4 wheeling? I have been on that Freeway on a snowmobile, and am wondering if we could stay in Rice lake and ride it up and hit some spurs of other trails?

Thanks for all the help!

the trails in hayward range from some sandy spots to mostly dirt, rocky type trails or forest roads.yes you can stay in rice lake but i believe you would have to trailer to trail head.you would have to take the wild rivers trail system to access other trails that lead you towards the north or side trails will get you to tuscobia.tuscobia is closed to atvs on the rice lake end.heres a few good links.http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/wildrivers/pdfs/wildriversfull.pdf

alot of times when we stay in hayward the wives will drop us off at the rice lake trail head of wild rivers and we ride up through spooner and trego then across to hayward.nice ride.tuscobia and wild rivers are both rail beds so smooth but can get vary dusty!!we were up that way over memorial weekend and it was getting pretty dust.lots of great stops along the way.
love the area.we come up from rochester area.

Has anyone stayed at Lakewoods resort by Cable and gone ATVing? Wonderng if you can get around to good trails easily from that location?

Thanks

have not stayed there to atv but you can head either towards cable or clam lake. You could also head towards the north ashland area depends on how far you want to ride.also some forest roads you could make your way down to moose lake or over to tuscobia.

We have a room at the Americinn in Hayward. They say the trail runs right behind their business. Looking at the maps it appears that I can get out of town and head west, but can I get out of town to the north and east trails? I am not sure this is the best spot. Anybodyhave any recommendations on a better place to stay on the trail around Hayward?

Thanks

stayed there over the memorial weekend and it worked out pretty good.nice free breakfast.the snowmobile trail goes right behind but not atv trail.first thing to do is get the new 2014 map when you get to hayward the map on the web site does not show the new out of town trail access.i have been riding out of town for couple years now just need to know where to go!which way you headed up?to go west you have to go about 8 miles on blacktop to get to trails.they are atv routes though.and actually you have to go along hwy 63 to get to trail access which is not a trail but have done it many times only about a mile at most then you come to town called stanberry and from there your good to go.some great trails that way.i suggest the trail that heads towardstrego then to minog look for a trail 8 that heads back to hayward great trails.if you want to go north and east you will need to take new trail access i believe it is trail 31 on old map.then it tees off to either south towards tuscobia or north towards cable or lakewoods area.great trails to be had in any direction.the trail south of casino can be a little rough though.as far as places to stay in hayward i feel american inn is best deal because of breakfast deal.otherwise this place is real simple and cheap but not much for breakfast deal.but closer to trail but only by a few blocks.http://www.americasbestvalueinn.com/bestv.cfm?idp=1925&rcode=sim2014
when you headed up?
