Red River Flooding

Why does this story come up every year. You would think after the floods they have had the past couple years, people would get the hint and get out of the area.

Underneath the 2 - 3 feet of water is some of the most fertile farmland in the world. The water will be gone in a few weeks and there will be plenty of time to plant crops that are worth more than they have ever been worth. Don't worry about us. Besides, as my uncle used to say - " Good sheetrock will take 3 floods."

Looks like Lake Agassiz reborn.

Haven't heard much from the G.F. area. Apparently the changes that were made a few years ago have helped.

why move when the fed regulates Flood insurance and makes the companies sell to you as late as 30 days before you get flooded. kinda like having a contractor at your beck and call to give you a full remodel every 3 or 4 yrs for about a grand out of pocket.I have a bud on the st croix river who has had his house payed for 4 times in the past 15 yrs buy flood insurance usualy ends up with a few new toys after all sed and done

It is some of the best farmland in the world and the floods actualy help make it so. I have lived here all of my life (54 years) an have fought many floods and only lost one. We are used to it but the news media thinks that it is good TV.

Skiroule, our dikes, floodwalls, and diversions built since 1997 have made the last few floods almost a non event. Two of the three bridges between Grand Forks and East Grand Forks are closed, some bike trails and parks are closed, and that is it. Here is a time lapse video of the river from the downtown bridge looking south. You have to scroll down some to see it.

Cool Time lapse - We used to play golf down at Lincoln Park, which I think is now long gone (and probably under water).
